I don’t enjoy much TV-but have loved Game of Thrones. Any other parents enjoying it as well? I have also been enjoying the books on which the TV production is based.

Me, me, me!!! I read the books starting years ago, then waited and waited while George RR Martin wrote other (not as good) things… Was very excited when he came back to writing more of these, although I had a hard time picking up all the characters again after a several year break. But I got 'em straight again. And have loved the TV series, even though I pretty much know what is going to happen already all the time. :)

I am half way through Storm of Swords-it is really compelling! It is rare that I enjoy a tv production as much as the book that it is based on-but this one is so well done. THey are both great
Really enjoying the added features with interviews with George Martin and the production team.

I also started the books long ago and am loving the TV series. That being said, it bugs me occasionally when they leave something out or change something. I don’t want to drop any spoilers but I feel like they’ve completely washed out the character of the Hound. He’s much more interesting in the books.

Still, the pressure of HBO will hopefully get the author to keep writing, and on time hopefully! If not, they will probably threaten to end the series for him if he can’t keep up.

I think Peter Dinklage is fantastic and fun to watch.

I want to reach into the TV and strangle Joffrey.

“I want to reach into the TV and strangle Joffrey.”

Yes, but it’s funny how evilly appealing Peter Baylish (Littlefinger) is!

My favorite characters for now are Daenerys and her dragons, Arya and Valar Morghulis, and Tyrion Lannister. I am also constantly looking for the dire wolves in every episode. Why is Ghost always far away from Jon Snow? Shouldn’t he follow his master?

I suspect that having dogs (those “wolves” are really a special breed of dog) on the set is expensive and time-consuming and has to be limited to a few times a season.

Also, the “wolves” seem so impossibly big now that I wonder whether special effects are being used to make them appear larger than they really are – which would be even more expensive.

On the other hand, they’ve greatly enhanced the character of Rob Stark, who didn’t seem anywhere near as compelling in the books. And the way they’ve changed Tywin Lannister is fascinating.

D2 and I were just talking about Robb Stark tonight. He is a more nuanced character in the TV series than in the book, we think. We like him better.

Krlilies - Ghost is often “off hunting” and away from Jon Snow but it doesn’t happen in the book that he’s so far away that he’s closer to Sam Tarly when they are beyond the wall. IMHO it was just a convenient way for the zombie thing to be stopped.

Sansa’s direwolf has been killed, and she is the Stark child in the most peril (which is why the Hound was such an interesting stand in for awhile, in the book).

Arya has had to run off her direwolf but sometimes dreams of her, as if she is the direwolf.

Bran, Rickon and Robb are still with their direwolves although Rickon “disappears” from the story pretty early on in the books (nothing dire, just that he goes into hiding for his protection, and he’s only about 3 or 4 years old so it doesn’t seem to matter. I assume he’ll come crashing back in at some point in the future).

I like Ygritte better in the TV series too. She’s the red-headed wilding girl that is with Jon Snow.

I don’t remember Arya dreaming as her dire wolf in the TV series. Only Bran. I like Ygritte too. My H told me something about her character in the book…shhh.

I’ve read all the books and have serious doubts whether Martin will survive to complete the series–it seems as though the story lines keep getting more and more complex and more and more characters and locales keep being added. The series is like a tree branching out continually in all directions, and it’s hard to see how it will all somehow pull back together for a proper ending without a lot more books being written–and Martin looks like a walking heart attack.

I really enjoy the TV version, and don’t mind the occasional changes from the books–not that I can even remember all the books in sufficient detail to notice the changes. I think the casting has been great–my only real quibble (and it’s just a quibble) is with the actress who plays Cersei. The character is supposed to be stunningly beautiful–I pictured Charlize Theron or Michelle Pfeiffer when I read the books–but I think Lena Headey, while very attractive, is not a great beauty, and Cersei’s blond hair does not flatter the actress, a natural brunette, at all.

Very fun, Patsmom!

My older son refuses to even start the books on this premise, having already been burned by the Wheel of Time books (Robert Jordan). I’ve read the first three books, but won’t get to see the current season till it’s available on DVD. I find the changes confusing sometimes - especially those involving Daenerys. My husband thinks Peter Dinkledge is too good looking for his part, but I really think he’s perfect. The guy who plays Littlefinger too. It does amuse me that everyone got a few years older for the TV show, I’m very glad that Sansa and Daenerys aren’t as young as they are in the books!

The Facebook spoofs are all brilliant. Has anyone taken credit for writing them?

Speaking of Peter Dinklage being too good looking, I recall that Tyrion lost his entire nose in the book–kind of glad that was one of the things they changed in the show!

I read all the books, but have been unable to watch the series: I find it too upsetting. (I found the books upsetting too!)

I agree that Dinklage is far too good-looking for Tyrion, although his performance seems very good.

Loved the books and love the series. Consolation, my best friend will not watch GOT since she finds it upsetting as well. She watches things that are far more violent, but since Martin created characters that are so engaging…she just can’t stand to watch bad things happen to these “people”.
Ever since his performance in The Station Agent, I’ve thought that Peter Dinklage is the one of the best, if not the BEST actor today.

I was struck by how much older the actress who portrays Sansa looks this year. She is going to be quite tall. Can’t wait to check in with Arya and Bran next week.
