Gap year thread!

@LAMuniv Glad to see I’m not the only one who has yet to submit any applications.

@dancingwriter Wow, 11 early apps. Someone’s being super proactive!

Good luck to all of you!!

Thanks! @1sparkle2‌

How are you handling the aftermath of the early deadline? Nervous? Anxious?

I’m really really lax compared to last year’s cycle.

My early deadline hasn’t even come yet - still really nervous, I only have two more days!

Did you submit the application?

Hahahahahaha no. I only just got a final draft of my essay, and even now I have to cut 66 words from it… O.O

Still a lot of work to do, huh? lol

Just sent in my app last night. Sends prayers to admissions gods

Haha, it’s good to have faith to relax and let God take control.

I just had my Columbia interview. Went well B-)

Hey guys, I’m also on a gap year. I never knew there was a thread for this. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one on here.

Hi @Anduar3‌!! What are you doing on your year? And are you already set up to go to college next year, or are you applying this year?

@viphan Same here! I never knew I could be so totally relaxed about the whole process. It definitely helps that I started everything super early this year  BTW, good to hear that your Columbia interview went well! I haven’t had any interviews yet, but I’m an international student, so there isn’t much opportunity for me to be interviewed. Last year, I was only interviewed by 2/14 schools.

Actually, an interview is required for Knox College since I was home schooled, but they’re not being very communicative via email haha (trying to set up a time and everything…). I don’t know what to do.

@Anduar3 Welcome to the gap year club!

I did a medical mission trip to Haiti with some doctors from Florida. I spent three months there helping them with a clinic they built. Now I’m back in NYC working as a research assistant/ghost writer for a professor at the Columbia School of Public Health. I even got my name published on two NIH funded projects. So I’ve been kinda busy. Recently got poached by a professor at NYU to be his research assistant, I just started that two weeks ago.

@LAMuniv, I’m applying this year. I submitted my ED app to Brown, so keeping my fingers crossed for that to come through so I can end this whole process

@anduar3 Sounds awesome! I’m surprised you didn’t apply to Columbia, though.

I’m applying to Columbia regular decision, if my early decision school doesn’t work out. Brown has always been my number one so I owed it myself to try to get in. I know if I applied to Columbia, I have a higher chance of getting in but nothing is set in stone really lol

dancing writer - call Knox Admissions (do you know your Admissions Advisor?) I know they’re in the middle of interviews now. When my daughter applied it was the middle of a hurricane and we had no electricity or phone reception so we had to cancel the local one and toyed with meeting up with the Boston interviewer but they told us that was silly, we could just do a phone interview when reception was back. They’re pretty easy going about many things, call and find out what they’re thinking in terms of an interview with you. Good luck!

amtc Yes, I have tried contacting my admissions advisor, but he stopped answering my emails…

EDIT: Turns out he is travelling until the 25th. Hm.

Traveling is not really an excuse in this day and age. I guess I would call the Admissions Office and explain what’s happening, they’ll deal with it.

@amtc Hey! I did contact the Admissions Office and I finally have an interview scheduled! Yay! I’ll let you know how it goes

By the way, I just did my Duke interview and it went… all right, I guess. The interviewer seemed to have more fun than I did. I wish I could have been more articulate with my answers, but what’s done is done.

And on another note, I got into Fordham! I wasn’t supposed to find out until December 15th, but there was a system error or something and I was told I was accepted. I double checked with Fordham admissions and apparently I really am accepted, but I won’t get my proper acceptance letter until December along with everyone else LOL!
