<p>same here… i only applied to one school. yup one school b/c honestly my financial situation and other circumstances at home have made me face the fact that I might have to start with nothing …and staying in-state would only mean less money to pay…(my parents mite have to leave the country therefore i mite have to live solo =no money)…so with this scholarship, i may be able to compensate for this and later move on to a college that i would have actually wanted to attend.</p>
<p>I applied to and I am going to NYU. Not that I can afford it w/o the scholarship…or by my own might , but I’ve been brought up believing and seeing that nothing is out of reach.</p>
<p>I never knew i’d be in America ever in my life. Here I am. I grew up wanting to be a butcher, now I’ll be pursuing a great education at NYU. My whole life has been a Miracle from God for me at least. With another miracle I just might become a Gates Scholar, if not I’m sure another miracle isn’t far off.</p>
<p>This waiting however is killing…geeez!</p>
<p>I’ve heard from UCI, UC Davis, UCLA, UC Berkeley, and USC. I’m still waiting too.</p>

<p>when you call in they will tell you that they received four documents. when i talked to a live person she told me that april 15th would be when they notify, i have no idea if she was just feeding me a date though.
gotten into uchicago, emory, uf, um, umich but i am battling it out between emory and chicago. at least til i hear from the ivies. not that i will get in : /</p>

<p>i called gmsp today. looks like our greatest fears have been confirmed they won’t start notifying people until april 15th the earliest and the third week of april the latest. i find it comforting to assume i got it: its not working. i am logging off college confidential for two weeks. this is addictive. so see u guys in 2 weeks. by then we should be scholars</p>

<p>What!?! So, we’ll know on a rolling basis from April 15th-25th whether we got it or not? Yowch. I’m into UCSD, Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Haverford, Kenyon, Middlebury, Wesleyan, and most likely Vassar too. Getting the GMS is literally going to decide if I’m going to Bowdoin or Middlebury…</p>

<p>I got my financial aid award notification letter from Berkeley today.</p>
<p>Dorm housing cost is $28312 per year but they gave me a total award of $27012 so I thought they pretty much covered everything.</p>
<p>But when I read all the offers carefully, a lot of them were loans.</p>
<p>So i went to the financial aid website and rejected all the loan offers.</p>
<p>My question is, if I become a Gates Scholar, Would the Gates Foundation pay for everything except the pell grants and the cal grants? So is it okay that I rejected all the loan offers?</p>
<p>yea, the gates scholarship covers anything the school doesen’t. meaning if you rejected the loans, your scholarship would be Cost of Attendance-grants-efc=your scholarship</p>
