I’m soo psyched. I got the Gates and Questbridge to University of Chicago!!! yeahhhh

ugh i am bummed about the not free computer. but last time i made the facebook group open so…everyone should join it

yea i go tthe letter in the mail today. im not a scholar.

oh darn… so it was sent through regular mail?

yep. dated April 15, and i received it today.

It says there was 1,900 finalists out of 20,500 applicants.

Congrats to those who made it =]

AHHHHHHH!!! I’M OFFICIALLY A GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLAR!!!
This is AMAZINGGGGGG dkhfsdkjfhjkfshjkfdhsjkfdhsjkfshjkfdshjk. Congratulations to all of you that have gotten it so far, and I wish the best of luck for those that haven’t. I’m a Hispanic male from South Florida by the way. If any other Gates scholars will be going to Columbia next year, hit me up.

Ok so since we are not getting money for a computer, can we use other scholarship money to buy a computer or does that scholarship money go to pay the self need portion. Im sort of confused.

me too. rejected. congrats everyone!

anyone else from nyu get rejected as well? haha. I guess I can take out 11k in loans/year, but then that puts me at at least 44k+interest by the time I graduate. **** YOU GATES! To tell you the truth, I know I deserved it alot more than some of the other people that got it did. ok, now the hatemail will flow in, but thats ok. I guess I should have done like everyone else and bull$#1tt3d about being poor and how sucky my life is. Oh well, it sucks that I kept my dignity. Whatever though, I am moving to new york city, going to get a great investmant banking job, intern at an amazing company while still going to school, it’ll be fine. Screw gms.

^^ I know how you feel. But this will not stop from following our dreams…

After all, it’s not that much money, at least for me. I only have 3,000 bucks in “self need”… so I will be taking out a loan.

thats awesome. nyu is superrr stingy with aide. Where are you going next year?

I can understand that you are upset and angry, but you do not have accuse anyone of faking their story. It is a small percentage to become a Scholar, so only the cream of the crop are taken. Don’t be so hateful. GMS had their reasons for choosing others and everyone who received the scholarship deserves it.

Nena01 = that’s the way to think! I’m going to JHU which is a private university, one of the top 20 in the US. That’s a blessing in itself! Perhaps God thought that someone else needed it more than I did, whatever (sorry if you’re not religious). He’s going to help me pave my way. Now that I think about it, Johns Hopkins tuition is about 55k a year and they already offered me a 48K grant per year for four years and I just got a 2K scholarship. That’s 7k or less each year! They’ve offered me work study, which puts me at 5k or less a year. I’m actually very blessed. Yes, GMS, sometimes I wonder how you pick your candidates. A very very talented friend of mine didn’t make finalist. But, at the same time I’m not dissing those who got it. Really! Good job everyone! :)

fujiwarae86: you’re not helping by calling anorexicabe hateful. =( It’s very upsetting yes, and some people tend to act out. If I were you I would’ve just shouldered it off. Yes, you are right in the fact that anorexicabe can’t assume that people make up their stories but, at the same time you can’t prove that no one does. About the whole “cream of the crop” thing, not true. GMS also bases their award on need. People who are certainly qualified probably didn’t get it because their EFC was higher than what they would award for. For example, maybe GMS cuts it off at 5K and a student’s EFC just happened to be 6k. See what I mean? No, I’m not doubting that the people who recieved it deserve it, I’m just saying, there are those out there who deserve it too but didn’t necessarily get it.
