I thought I’d chime in on this thread. Our son is a freshman at GT this year. He was deferred from EA and ultimately accepted to the Summer Session, not Fall which he had applied to. Initially it was a bit of a disappointment for the Summer acceptance but he committed and went in June. In hindsight, he’s glad he went in the summer and LOVES GT. For those of you with Summer admission letters don’t be too disappointed…you’ll be ahead of the Fall admits! He’s a Computer Engineering major, rushed a fraternity and participates on one of race teams at GT. Go Jackets!
sounds like itll be worth it then! I opted in for it and was admitted into the summer session. So far it looks like i’ll be attending. just waiting for the financial aid package now i guess
Didn’t get Stamps either. Going to Princeton! I’m shocked that Harvard/Princeton admits in this thread didn’t get Stamps, but I think that means that GT is looking for very specific students for Stamps.
If you don’t mind me asking, how long was Summer Session for last year? I can’t find answers anywhere and I’m worried about it conflicting with ROTC summer training. Also, were you able to get some sort of aid for the summer credits? For OOS this year it’s looking like a total of 10k, which would be a steep price for my family to cover if ROTC doesn’t pick it up…
Accepted Summer Session
OOS
White Female
Biomedical Engineering
GPA 4.0 UW/4.5 W
35 ACT (superscored)
8 AP’s (5’s on all exams taken)
Rank 32/730 at very competitive school
Strong Leadership in all EC’s, consistency in topic of extracurricular (most service or music related)
Worked approximately 15-20 hours/week during school year
I don’t remember exact dates but it was early June to August 1 for Short Summer Session. Our son took 3 classes (one of them being GT1000). The cost was around 11K all in - we did not have any aid. Good Luck! He said it felt like HS as he was in class all day, but he met some great friends and got a feel for the campus before it was “full” with Fall students. Pulled all A’s so that’s a nice start for his GPA. Good Luck!
To clarify, this is not a scholarship yet, just a semifinalist status. Out of 325 semifinalists only 40 will ultimately become Stamps scholars, 20 in state and 20 OOS.
I always presumed they looked for activist types for these, the movers and shakers. Our son in a nerd through and through, all of his extracurriculars are academic in nature.
You may not believe me, but we were hoping not to have to face the choice between GT and MIT. Odds are pretty good we still won’t. But the paradox of choice is feeling very real right now.
I’m a little confused about the summer admit status. Was it necessary to check summer admit on the application? My son did not check that box on the application, but I thought it could be offered regardless of checking or not. He was deferred in ea, so he is hoping he will get in on regular decision.
It looks like Stamps, Presidents and Gold Scholars have all been notified in the admissions portal. There is a link on the page that was not there when kid checked this morning.
If he did not check the box on his application then I don’t think he wiil be considered for summer program admissions. If he gets accepted during RD for fall admissions he can request to start in the summer if he wants.
I faced a similar tough choice when I had Stanford and GT Stamps semifinalist nomination. It got sorted out when I did not make the top 20 OOS cut and hence I decided on Stanford and loving it.
