Georgia Tech Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

There is no way to know how long a WL will remain open. There is often “summer melt” when students either get off another WL and empty their GT spot, they fail to pay their deposit on time for whatever reason, decide to take a gap year, etc. So no way to predict if they are going deep into their WL or not at all. But yes, they should indicate when the WL is closed and the class is full.

It is given as an option to every student, but it is required for some students. If you are admitted as a summer entry, that is your only option. They will not move you to fall. If you are admitted for fall, you do have an option to opt in to start in the summer, which is a wonderful program that everybody loves. One of my kids did that as a fall accepted student

Okay, that makes sense. I was admitted for the Fall term. Is there any benefit for the Summer term?

Benefits
Everyone who does it loves it! Lots of fun
Classes are easier and grades are higher so you will likely enter with a high GPA
Way to get comfortable on campus and adjust to college in a low pressure environment
If you want to do fraternity rush it is going on then informally so way to meet people
Since you will have extra hours earned that puts you ahead of some others who didn’t do it and class registration priority is based on earned hours
Small cohort of students so easy to meet people

Negatives
Costs money - have to pay for room and board and fees. Georgia residents won’t have to pay tuition if they have Zell.
Shorter summer. You start end of June. Ends July 31 and then come back a week later. So less time at home and with friends and less time to work if you want to earn money for school.
You will not live in your fall room so you will have to move at least rooms if not dorms.

I’m currently on the WL for georgia tech. I just sent in my LOCI a few days prior to this text, which I received this morning:

Your https://gatech.studentforms.com/ 2025 -

2026 Verification tasks have been reviewed by the school. We will contact you if any additional information is needed.

Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid

Georgia Institute of Technology

Is this a good sign? Do they typically process or update verification documents for students they aren’t still actively considering?

Any update about WL? My son is WL. When is the earliest we can expect to hear?
Many thannks

Nothing yet :frowning:

oops i meant first year semester abroad. anyone have any advice on gt vs uiuc for compe? (price is comparable enough to not matter)

Thanks! Please kindly add that ( GT) to the waitlist thread linked above

Did you get off the wait-list?

yes

damn nice

Curious for any who have gotten off the waitlist if there was any mention of the status of the Atlanta campus. I know a couple of years ago around this time they started accepting people for first year semester abroad (FYSA). The letter received stated that the Atlanta campus was full and they didn’t admit any off waitlist for Atlanta. Around 40 got off to FYSA to fill those programs. Wondering if it’s the same situation this year or not?

What major, just curious

Questions that may not be perfect for this thread… S25 accepted RD… and immediately applied for Honors Program and other LLC once given the buttons to do so.

  1. Seems Honors accepted ~250 in February after Early Action… so is it basically filled?

  2. What about the other LLC like Explore, etc.? Will there basically be no spots left?

  3. What time do they release HP/LLC decisions on Friday April 25th for RD? 7PM again?

  4. First year housing… used to be based on how quickly got deposit down and so on… but read its now a complete lottery (true/false)? NOTE: I know this to be a FACT now for all students at GT based on my son who is a second year and his housing application for next year that he did back in January… it has flipped to a complete lottery.

Thanks a bundle for any insights (wrong thread or not?)

It is with very heavy heart… or maybe that’s dramatic… it is with emotions we are conflicted much like you outlined with pros and cons.

S25 was very close to doing Ignite. Very (VERY) much wanted to… for all the reasons you mention soft start, etc. But there’s an important medical issue that need address (not life threatening but a must do kind of thing). Anywho, as a result, he will not be doing Ignite. And, now we’re left feeling slightly blue… at the end of the day it doesn’t change much in the grand scheme of life… but just wanted to circle back and say if the Lord blesses us to have our third and last son get into GT from OOS in a few years… he will definitely do Ignite based on your feedback!!! Everything sounds wonderful!

computer engineering!

What is the benefit of LLC? Is it mostly just an opportunity to connect with a close knit community of people and housing benefits?
