Georgia Tech Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Congrats on excellent achievement in school, should have a very strong chance. Do change your username for privacy.

Can someone chance my kid.

Instate girl- competitive public HS is metro Atlanta

Applying EA 1

Major - Public Policy

GPA 4.15

AP/IB/DE classes - 15

ACT -30

Taking BC Calc this year

Leader in state championship academic team at her school - huge commitment. They team was top 10 at nationals

Works a lot and some volunteer work

I know the ACT is a bit low…

Your kid has a good chance. I do believe they focus more on the GPA than the standardized test scores. At least, that’s what they said when we went for a tour a couple of years back. Good luck to your kid.

I would take a look at the stats for admitted applicants for your school - GA Tech provides that info. Competitive high schools in the Atlanta area are mostly around 32-34 ACT (mid-50th percentile) but that is not broken down by gender. The admission rate for girls is around double that for boys at Tech.

HS level stats are only available to GA HS counselors, these data are not publicly available…so students would need to ask their counselor. Some students may have access to Scoir/Naviance/et al scattergrams which often show admissions results for their HS by year (which is better than the data Tech makes public, see below.)

One can see county data at the appropriate tab here Admission Snapshot | Undergraduate Admission.

Note that all data is from summer 2018 to fall 2023 combined, so not quite sure how helpful that really is. GPA, rigor, and test score averages are ā€˜averages for admitted (enrolled) populations only’…who knows what that means because admitted and enrolled are different groups.

I looked at website. Thanks for sharing.

What does rigor 14.8 mean? Is that the number of AP/IB/DE?

Also curious if we should have applied for summer start? Does that improve chances?

Not sure, but that’s a good guess.

Probably but I don’t know for sure. What do you think/know @DramaMama2021 ?

Unless something has recently changed, applying for summer start does not improve one’s chance of admission. The alternate start programs exist to allow a larger freshman class without straining campus resources.

If a student is admitted for summer start, they cannot request a change to a fall start. The acceptance is only for summer start. However, if admitted to fall start a student can request a change to the summer start iGniTe program and will be approved if space allows. We know a student who opted for this in 2021 to get some gen eds out of the way.

@VirginiaBelle, is this still accurate?

Statistics are available to everyone, which is great:

I do not agree with @DramaMama2021 .
Applying for summer always increased slightly chances for acceptance. Simply because of what she mentioned. GaTech is trying to expand freshman class that way and not everyone willing (and simply can due to HS graduation dates) start early. This was the case even 25+ years ago. I knew several people who were warned to apply for summer because they had 0 chances for fall.

I understand why people would think that. It makes logical sense. However, a couple years ago it was stated on the GT admissions site or blog that it did not increase admissions odds.

As I stated above, I don’t know if that’s still the case. It would be great to find current information and have a definitive answer.

Very interesting statistics. Too bad that my country is not shown but still, it’s a good statistics to have. Thanks.

Hope my son is not in CA11 region whatever that is. Joking aside, in the campus visit they did say the test score is just one part of the holistic review.

I hear you. The differences between university-wide statistics and these on an individual school level are interesting.

OOS admission at Tech is extremely competitive (10% acceptance rate for Class of 2028.)

The hurdle for acceptance is very high, even though grades and rigor are relatively more important than test scores, the students whose academic stats keep them in the running tend to have high test scores. Average test scores for OOS are higher than in-state as well, as in-state students are prioritized for the class.

I appreciate all the info that you’ve provided on this thread. It’s very helpful. I have a ā€œChance Meā€ question for you all
S25 submitted his application for EA before the deadline
In-state, Metro Atlanta, Salutatorian, Rank 2/541, GPA UW 4.0, 13 APs including AP CALC BC, AP Physics C and Multivariable Calculus, SAT 1540, Good essays, ECs and recommendations.
Major: Option 1: Computer Science, Option 2: Computer Engineering.
We know CS is a reach, but what do you think are his chances? We want to stay optimistic, but realistic with our expectations.

Also, where can I find stats on in-state CS admits in the past? Thanks in advance.

Tech does not publish admission results by major, your S might ask his HS counselor for the overall school results, and what they know about prior CS applicants’ results.

I can’t chance him but seems your S will be competitive. Good luck to him.

From what we know, very few kids apply to CS major at Tech from his school. Just a handful, if that, even though it’s a big school.

Your child has a chance, but it is a bit of lottery especially for CS ans CE for everyone even with top stats. There are only so many spots in GaTech and admission decides how to fill them depending on institutional interests.
