Thank you
Sure. I meant to say the admission is holistic and these stats were probably generated after admission. The GPA seems 4.1 average is most of the regions and is probably not used directly in holistic review.
I sure hope you come back and update us with what happens. Your sonās profile is so impressive.
To my knowledge there is no admission data available by major. This makes sense because until last year GTech did not admit by major and freshman were able to freely change majors one time after admission.
GT now restricts admission (and transfer) to CS. As we all know thatās an extremely popular major these days and the decision was made to manage admission to that department to better plan and utilize institutional resources. It will be interesting if we start seeing admissions data shared for the CS major once they have a few years of data available.
Edit: I do think your student is an accomplished and competitive applicant and has a higher chance than the overall average⦠but CS is a difficult admit and impossible to chance. I do suggest your student spend time on all aspects of their application and show how they will contribute to the GT community. GT is open about looking for students who will contribute to the greater community and become leaders on campus. They donāt have many supplementary essays or opportunities to share this so if there are a few activities that can be included or something woven into the essay that may help. GT appreciates multi-dimensional students.
Best of luck! Please keep us updated.
Another edit: To clarify, I canāt chance admission to the CS major. As salutatorian, this student should have guaranteed admission to GT as long as the criteria of the Scholars Program are met. I realized belatedly some readers may not have knowledge of this program.
Your son will get in. If he doesnāt I donāt know who would

Technically speaking the highest possible Weighted GPA - if an extra point is given for AP classes and all classes taken were AP classes - is 5. 4.1 may appear a bit low to them given their institutional statistics, just my two cents of course
Thank you for your detailed answer. This is very helpful. He does have a good amount of community service, including being a co-founder of a local community service group that has over 270 active members doing a variety of community service projects across the county and beyond.
His essays did talk about the specific projects at Tech that heās interested in and the work of the few professors he follows closely. We do understand that CS is a competitive major. Weāll stay optimistic but weāll respect their decision. Good luck to everyone.
AP courses are weighted (.4) in the final GPA, and the school only allows students to take AP classes from 11th grade. I maxed out AP classes in 11th. So the best weighted GPA in the school is 4.1
Thank you. Hope your words come true
Curious as to how internship advisor can be a recommender. I thought I saw Georgia Tech only allows Teachers, Clergy, Employer and College Access Counselor.
Regardless excellent academic profile and should have a good chance of admission.
You are right. I messed it up with other schools. I only asked 3 teachers for LOR for Georgia Tech.
Excellent academic profile. All the best!
Nothing to worry. Good Luck!
Then Iād say he stands as good or better chance than any in-state applicant (obviously better than OOS). Iāll also go out on a limb and say he has a better than average chance at the Stamps.
Edit: Iām referring specifically to admissions to CS. This student is guaranteed admission to GTech under the Ga Scholars program for vals-sals. Iām going to edit my previous post for readers who may not be familiar with this program.
I would say nothing to worry, but no guarantee for GaTech. As I mentioned earlier we have OOS friends with the most rigorous magnet in the US (top 5 magnet), top student in schoool. Like top GPA, top SAT top and top EC. Kid was waitlisted⦠Came off waitlist in June after committing to another collegeā¦
Thank you.
Thank you. Fingers crossed.
Interesting. If itās guaranteed, and if the student only wants CS or CE, then what happens⦠Thanks a lot for this information.
That is the question, right?!?!!!
I do not know how, or if, being a Ga Val-Sal will be considered for admission to CS.
