Girl Scout Requesting the Help of College Students!

Hey everybody,
I am a Girl Scout and a freshman in high school. Right now I am trying to earn my Silver Award. To meet some of the requirements I need the input of college students for the following questions:

1. What classes are you taking?

2. Why are you taking these classes?

3. What job do you expect to get when you are done?

I realize that these aren’t the most intelligently worded questions, but they are what the Girl Scout Council requires us to ask :P

Any and all answers are welcome! Preferably related to the questions above, of course!

This past semester I took a bio class (cells and proteins), music theory, calc 3, child psych, and a required seminar class. This upcoming semester I will be taking bio (organisms and ecosystems), another required seminar, general chemistry 2, human intelligence (a psych course), and calc-based statistics.

The two bio classes are part of the core for my major, a B.S. in biology. I’m also a psych major. I’m taking the two math classes in case I wish to apply to med school, and I believe the stats class is also necessary for my bio major. I’m taking chem despite AP credit so that I can do well on ochem next year.

I honestly haven’t a clue. Possibly med school, possibly something research-related, possibly something working with kids. Thankfully I don’t have to decide yet, since I’m only a freshman.

Good luck! Just ask if there’s anything else you’d like to know!

1. What classes are you taking?

This past semester I took 2 sections of ballet, 2 of modern, experiential anatomy, music for dancers, dancemaking I, and nutrition.
This upcoming semester I’m taking 4 sections of modern, 3 of ballet, Jazz II, philosophy I, dramatic literature, and contact improvisation

2. Why are you taking these classes?

All my dance courses are required courses, but I’m taking way more than required. The philosophy/lit are to fill LAS (liberal arts and sciences) requirements, I wanted to take sociology and gay and lesbian lit but they were closed.

3. What job do you expect to get when you are done?

In a dream world I will get a job in a modern dance company after graduation, or find some other sort of steady dance work.

I’m a bio major by the way

i am a non-traditional student, being that i am 43 years old. i am a senior at Tennessee Tech University majoring in Secondary education-History (teaching high school history) and minoring in Business.

this semester, i am taking chinese history, intigrating computers into the classroom, tennessee history, materials and methods of teaching social studies and accounting.

2 the history and teaching classes are for my major and the accounting is for my minor.

i may continue my education to a Masters of Business Administration or to become a certified public accountant. if i teach i want to teach adult education in a prison, as i have WORKED in prisons and jails for over 20 years. if i get a job in business, i want to work in logistics or human resources at a trucking company, as i drove a tractor-trailer for two years.

i hope this will give your assignment a broader view. you can go to college and get an education or upgrade the one you have, at any time in life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, History of Psych, Commercial Music Internship, Psych Practicum, General Chemistry, Psychological Tests and Measures, Physiological Psychology, Research Practicum

Cog-B – to learn to use this therapy in my clinical practice later on
History of Psych – psych major requirement
Commercial Music Internship – music major req (probably converting to minor but oh well…finishing it out)
Psych Practicum – working with at-risk pre-teens; clinical experience w/ population I hope to work with
Gen Chem – pre-med pre-req
Psych Tests & Measures – psych major req
Physio-Psych – interesting (basically neuropsychology) and it also looks really good on grad and med school applications
Research Practicum – great for med and grad school…

looking at med or grad school… wanting to be an adolescent psychiatrist or psychologist… psychiatrist is looking more like what I want to do because it’s more clinical/applied, whereas most clinical psych programs expect you to still be primarily a researcher, and that’s just not where my heart is!
