Going to college in Canada, questions!!!!

Hello I’m interested in attending UBC in Canada as it is a lot cheaper then American colleges. I would like to major in Geology as I would like working outdoors as a lot of them do that and it pays quite well with a good job market. Couple questions:

1.) If I major in Geology there, how are my chances of getting employed by an American company because I went to a Canadian college?

2.) I might kinda consider med school based on how my grades are. Anyways, do the required pre-med classes (calc, bio, chem, organic chem, inorganic chem, and english) included in Geology majors?

3.) Does going to a college for pre med in another country affect my chances of getting into a US med school badly?

BUMP!

If McGill grads can make it to UCSF, Vanderbilt for med school, then so can UBC grads.

The course for a Geology major can be found here:
http://www.eos.ubc.ca/academic/undergraduate/GEOL-MAJOR_JUNE_2014.pdf

Looking quickly, what seems to be missing is a second organic course, biochem, and any biology.

Thanks @Catria and @MrMom62‌ then that means I’ll have to take a couple others, such as biochem in one of my electives. Also, do you think I can double major with film?

And do pre-med? Doubtful, but that can vary by college.

Your chances may actually improve because you can easily work in both Canada and America after graduation. Besides, UBC is extremely well known to relevant employers. In the North American geology world it is considered on par with UT Austin (that’s a good thing fyi).

@MrMom62‌ answered it best. The only thing I will add is that geology students take harder versions of math and physics than most bio majors.

I will warm you that the major Canadian universities have far less grade inflation than many of their North American counterparts.

Do you think graduate school (that is, non-MD kind of thing) is necessary, if you find yourself shut out of med school?

If you’re going to speak Canadian, you should use “eh” in the correct manner. The above should be: 4) If someone holds two doors for you one after another, is it more polite to say “thank you” once or twice, eh? And the answer would be twice.

I would like to echo @whenhen‌ . The grading scale at Canadian universities could be a rude shock to US students. There is absolutely no grade inflation there, and the numeric equivalent of letter grades is different.
