Some of the schtick with announcing the winners was silly, IMO - the Goldie Hawn/Amy Schumer bit, the Sofia Vergara bit (the whole latina who can’t pronounce things is really old and tiresome).
I did enjoy Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig!

I did enjoy Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig!
Anna Kendrick and Heidi Klum-, just no.
Loved Steve and Kristen!!
Didn’t mind GH/AS
Disliked SV schtick. Just not funny at all.
@emilybee
I watched the slideshow and have a new "worst’ Sophie Turner. What was going on there?!
Isabelle Huppert - beautiful. Kristin Wiig -looked great - pretty dress
Thanks @emilybee for that link, I loved looking at the dresses!
Yes to Thandie Newton’s white off the shoulder dress with copper beading at the bottom-stunning!
Riley Keogh’s geometric dress looked ill-fitting, I wish she’d spent time with the designer getting it tailored to her tiny frame.
The proportions on SJP’s dress were really off-the sleeves were too loose and there was too much volume in the skirt for her build. White also photographs super weird, which makes it even odder that she chose it because she knows what works on the red carpet when you’re going edgy.
Anna Kendrick, what the hell!?!
I have to say I’m seriously having more issues with the tailoring of the dresses than the dresses themselves-gaps everywhere, hems too long or too short, it’s like they just grabbed a dress off of a rack and went with it!
What is up with the plague of droopy sleeves?
Natalie Portman looked lovely, and I love Ruth Negga’s Metropolis-inspired dress.
Kristen Bell looked badass
and that dress fits her perfectly
I would have loved Olivia Culpo’s dress without the underboob.
I think Lily Collins’ dress is my favorite, and I usually loathe pink. It’s just perfect for her and absolutely fits her just right.
I didn’t mind SJP’s dress, the hair and makeup I thought distracted from the dress instead of enhancing it.
Liked the Steve Carrel and Kristin Wiig presentation, but hated her dress–it looked like a big lace doily.
My favorites: Julia Louie Dreyfus, Bree Larson, Naomi Harris.
yeah, underwhelmed with the dresses. Hoping they are saving their “A choice” for the Oscars…
@emilybee - I saw the names at the bottom. I’ve just never heard of many of them!
Just watched Fashion Police. Of course not the same without Joan and I miss Kelly Osborne also… but the consensus was Lily Collins for best dressed with a vote for Emma Stone (she was my personal best dressed) from Brad and one for Sophia Vergera. The worst dressed by consensus was Sophie Turner and would have to agree. Cannot figure out what choices went into selecting that dress and designing it to begin with.
I’d agree with the Lily Collins pick.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Deleted comments that have nothing to do with the GG. Let’s stick to the topic please.
Kerry Washington. Loved it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4100628/Kerry-Washington-shows-stunning-post-baby-body-gold-gown-Golden-Globes.html
Fun fact: Riley Keogh is Elvis Presley’s granddaughter.
@wisteria100 I’m the mother of a gay child and I do take offense easily concerning LGBT equality, but I was not at all offended by Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake’s dance. They have great chemistry together and the Bromance has been played up in the past on the tonight show and SNL.
The more I think about it, the more I don’t think the actors should use this stage and venue for their pontification. Did I agree completely with Meryl? Yes I did. But it was obvious that there were those in attendance that had every right to be present for a nice night out, and not have to endure listening to anything that didn’t have to do with the awards. It really wasn’t fair to them. So, my vote is it was not the right platform.
Off my soapbox now…after looking through all the dresses, I do think Sofia Vergaras was the prettiest. Where is the writing talent to help these actors speak when they step up to the stage? It’s awful what they had her say.
I think a great number of the actors at awards shows prefer to be asked and given time to speak about their views on politics, social causes, etc rather than just be seen as dolls to dress up and speak the words they are given. Especially the women, who are the ones simply asked about who dressed them and then are later picked about for their clothing, hair and make up choices.
I’m sure there are people there who prefer the shallow topics as well. That doesn’t mean there were as many or more enjoying having someone give voice to their thoughts. There have always been speeches, statements and moments such as this at awards shows. If people aren’t expecting to hear them, they haven’t been paying attention for decades.
The whole thing is fluff, even Billy Bob mentioned it’s not a track meet…just someone’s opinion. I just don’t think it’s the right venue for these statements…50 years ago or now. Just my opinion.
Art IS political. Always has been. We denigrate the importance of art in society when we relegate it to merely “entertainment.” I think the GG’s tends to recognize that more, maybe because of its cosmopolitan foundations.
Personally, I’ve always loved the political/social commentary on the awards shows, even when I disagree with the message…not that I disagreed this time.
As for great dresses – I thought Annette Benning looked amazing (she’s not in the Vogue slideshow, but you can see it here: http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/01/annette-bening-in-pamella-roland-at-the-2017-golden-globe-awards/) Partly it’s the dress, but mostly it’s just her glow.
