Velvet Underground - Sweet Jane
Smithereens - Blood and Roses
Del Fuegos - Don’t Run Wild
Patti Smith - When Doves Cry (Price cover) or Gloria
Rolling Stones - Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’ or Hearbreaker or Miss You
Breeders - Cannon Ball
Propellerheads - Spybreak
Moby - Extreme Ways
Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

I think the live version of Sweet Jane–from Rock n Roll Animal–would be better for working out. With intro, it stretches to 8 minutes, and really rocks.
I’m enjoying the workout song esoterica, so here are a few more in that vein:
The Iguanas - Oye Isabel
World Party - Way Down Now
Indigenous - Things We Do
The Reivers - Breathin’ Easy

The Smithereens are a great workout choice! Pat was a friend of mine many years ago, and I remember him playing “Blood and Roses” on an acoustic guitar in my living room while he was working on it. One Friday night a year or so later, I was watching Miami Vice, and that song was the interlude piece. Talk about a jaw-dropping experience.

I pretty much listen to Pearl jam on my pod-for the bike and weight machines and older Motown for after stretching
Animal
Blood
Do the Evolution
Given to Fly
Go
Hail Hail
Lukin
Porch
rearview mirror
Save You
State of love and trust
Tremor Christ
Throw your arms around me
also some Little Wing ( Hendrix)
Marvin Gaye
Lets get it on
Whats going on
Inner city blues
and sometimes Neil Young or Bonnie Raitt depending on my mood-
Depending on what the gym is playing I may just listen to that
but they often play bad 80s music

classic
love Talking Heads
I suggested to my daughter that they do “the road to nowhere” as part of their high school graduation ceremony
they did- and segued it into EW & F “Shining Star”
if you don’t know the Talking Heads I suggest seeing “Stop Making Sense”
really a great concert film

Still have “The Name of the Band is the Talking Heads” on cassette, and it still gets some play in the car.

Saw the Stop Making Sense Tour at the US Open Tennis HQ in Forest Hills. 20th row. 3 hours. Easily the best show I have ever seen.

Other Heads related choices include Tom Tom Club - Genius of Love or Wordy Rappinghood and David Byrne’s “Rei Momo” cd, which features South American musical styles. Also if you can find “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” by Byrne and Eno.

I prefer shorter songs with more funky/rhythmic styles than hard rock when I work out. I have a 20GB I pod but prefer the shuffle set on random for variety.

How about:
Elastica - Connection
Joy Division - Love Will Tear us Apart
C&C Music Factory
Rusted Root
and Trainspotting, Gross Pointe Blank and Best of Britpop soundtracks.

Well, you’ve all been generous and although I haven’t listened to all of the suggestions yet, I have adopted a couple. Here is my current list fwiw…starts with wakeup/warmup, goes to warmup run, to real run, to weights or slowdown/cooldown…rarely get to the end. I will be adding some of yours as I get a chance to listen to them. Thank you thank you, and hope others got some new songs too!!

tsdad…is that a philosophical question for all of us:)?

My workout was much more fun this morning, thank you! Have also added Roll to me and What I like about you to the list since yesterday. Am slowly making my way through everyone’s songlists.
