Governor Closes all Minnesota Schools Next Monday! How Cold Will it Be in Your State?

Emeralykitty, not till tomorrow afternoon. It’s -7f at the South Pole right now.

Not a fair comparison. It’s summer at the South Pole.

Speak for yourself. Going on 23 years in this crap and I am still NOT acclimated to any kind of cold!

I will continue to grumble and complain until I move away from the cold and snow. grumps

Well, you guys can’t say you’re surprised about needing to wear a coat and boots in the winter…

It was brutal today in Tampa. Just brutal. 30mph winds hitting you right as you open the door.

Don’t read this if you have a weak stomach!

Well, this about takes it all. We let our dog out tonight for his usual potty break (he’s been staying out a couple of minutes, and scratching when he wants to come back in). When it wasn’t so cold, sometimes he’d stay out longer, eating snow off the back stoop, and we’d just let him. Tonight we went to let him back in, and found blood all over the back stoop. He’d evidently eaten the snow down far enough to reach metal on the door jamb, and gotten his tongue stuck, and the only way he could get it off was, to well, tear the skin, thus the blood. But he seems happy as a clam right now!

So, yea, until it warms up, he won’t be going outside without one of us and his leash!

No. It’s brutal up here. It’s unpleasant down there.
It feels seventy degrees warmer in Tampa than here.
Wah. Just wah.

Forty degrees? Sounds like flipping summer to me!

In suburban Cleveland right now, it’s -10 with a wind chill of -35 degrees. It’s horrible out there.
Remember, that your pet will begin to suffer frostbite in about 3 minutes if outside in these temperatures! Stay right there with them- when you’re cold, so are they!

Oh no, teri! That’s awful. Did you call the vet to see if there’s something you should do?

That poor baby. I’m reaching through the internet and giving him a big ole hug right now.

Cold is cold, romani. You wouldn’t know how brutal it was since…you aren’t here…

Tampa really went through some odd changes throughout the day. Early morning was humid and hot. It felt about 73…but then in an hour it ws in the 50s along with harsh winds and rain that made part of my day miserable.

“Hard is hard. Who are you to say someone’s “hard” isn’t hard?”
<a href=“Coming out of your closet | Ash Beckham | TEDxBoulder - YouTube”>Coming out of your closet | Ash Beckham | TEDxBoulder - YouTube;

Or even…“Only the one who wears the shoes knows it’s too tight…”

He actually seems fine - wanted to play when he came indoors (the cold weather makes him very frisky)! The bleeding stopped, in fact, we couldn’t see any at all. The only way we knew it happened is because of the blood we saw on the stoop and piece of metal on the door jamb. There was no blood anywhere else on his body.

Oh. Weird. I almost wonder if the blood froze and clotted.

I’d just keep an eye on it to make sure there’s no infection forming.

My mom drove past a church in Florida today that was advertising itself as an emergency shelter for the homeless to come and warm up.

I can understand that 40 degrees is terribly uncomfortable when you aren’t used to it-- it’s the way I can walk around in shorts when it’s 60 degrees in April but 60 is freezing in October. But how is it an emergency? You literally can’t freeze. That’s the only reason I giggle a little bit-- the melodrama. But I am sure it is VERY uncomfortable, and you have my sympathy, sort of. Especially if you’re homeless and wearing shorts and no coat.

Here’s a laugh for my fellow northerners: <a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube; if I am allowed to post a youtube link…

I do feel for the homeless in any weather but especially when it’s cold out.

When I worked in Lansing, the place I worked was both a warming and cooling center on weather emergency days. State officials would provide them with hot or cold meals/drinks and give them a place to sit/stay for a while.

mid 50’s here in CT and it was glorious. Too bad it rained all day but there’s practically no more snow on the ground anymore which is good. I’m travelling tomorrow and the high is set to be 17 with a low of 3. :|

Rather that than pouring rain and wind, I guess.

LOL- Ema, I’ve seen that several times and it never gets old.

I’ve lived in the LA area before and it’s hilarious to watch people freak out.

Yea, we’ll keep an eye on it. I will call the vet if I have to, but after another 'bout we went through with him a couple of weeks ago, I’m afraid they’ll call the Humane Society on us… he got his bully stick down to about the last 3" or so, and next thing you know, it wasn’t around anywhere. Within 45 minutes he started throwing up, and did so for six times before I called the vet (and couldn’t locate the remaining bully stick anywhere in the room he’d been in, so I knew he’d swallowed it). Had to take him in - they did three x-rays (determined there was no blockage), gave him an anti-emetic and nausea injection, as well as two more oral doses to give at home the next two evenings since his stomach was obviously very irritated. If he’d thrown up that night, I would have had to take him back in the next morning for a barium x-ray. Thankfully he didn’t, and I was just $250 poorer, but I think two visits in two weeks for events that could have been prevented if we’d kept a better eye on him, won’t look so good!

Now THAT’s being dramatic. Sure to provide the homeless and others who are without support te support they need…but like people are stocking up on food and stuff. Lolwut

You can laugh but 40 in Florida seems a lot colder than 20 up north. And it’s not just because people don’t dress for it. The air is more humid and it just gets into your bones faster. I can’t really explain it, but I would way rather have 20s in the north than 40s down there.

Ouch, teri, I understand.

He wouldn’t happen to be a lab would he?

It seems some don understand that the entire IS is feeling the effects arctic freeze. Just because it’s not -50 does not mean people aren’t having it bad…
