What does it mean when a user’s name appears in gray on their posts? Probably a dumb question but I couldn’t find the answer anywhere. (is there a forum FAQ somewhere that I’m missing?) Thanks!
I think it is new users that haven’t had enough time to be established into the snazzy bold letters.
Can you give us an example? Haven’t noticed that.

I am not sure if I have an example but I have noticed brand new people usually have a greyed out user name. I will see if I can find one.

Thanks. I just looked at a post or 2 by new users and didn’t notice.
Oh wait- I see one that says it is the poster’s first post. Maybe that’s it?

It certainly could be new users? Here’s another example of a new user with a gray name.
I will just say that if someone has made a deliberate choice to highlight new users with grayed out names, I think this is an unfortunate color to choose!
When I first saw these names, I actually assumed that the grayed out name meant something like “since posting, this user has deleted their account, so don’t bother replying to them” 
If it’s meant to highlight new users, I would suggest a more prominent color like blue?

It seemed to have started after the upgrade. I don’t think the gray names can post pictures. They may not be able to do personal messages either.
Well this is peculiar- I went back to take a screenshot of the post where I just saw the name greyed out, and it’s no longer greyed out!!
So maybe it’s only gray for a brief time period? Or maybe that user was active on the forums in the meantime and passed some not-new threshold of post reading / likes / ?
That is my thought.
