Great....more snow!

Went to Marquette in Milwaukee. Even with bitter sub-zero temps and way too much snow, I only remember evening classes being cancelled at 3pm one day, as the snow as piling up and roads were freezing over.

Very light snow today and it’s not sticking because it’s too warm.

I went to high school in Syracuse. Snowed every day from November to April. School was never closed. It was a shock to me coming from New Haven were school was closed for 1/2" of snow.

My poor dog hasn’t been able to run since around October and she’s going CRAZY. She tore her ACL sometime around Halloween and had to stay off her leg for several weeks. When she started recovering, the polar crap hit and it’s been too cold for her. Yesterday, it was finally warm enough and the dog day care by my house cleared their yard of most of the snow. We took her up there yesterday to run and she has been sleeping ever since!

How are your furbabies dealing with this ridiculousness?

Sadly my pups (see avatar) are not getting out as much as usual, but we are making do. They seem to understand that the snow is in the way. They were totally understanding the other day when it snowed from 4:00 AM until 5:00 PM. They didn’t want or need to go to our favorite woodsy places – just out for a poop and a pee, then back in to snooze.

Yesterday at 6am my husband had to go out and shovel off the deck, steps, and make a path in the yard so my wee dog could go out. He was not a happy camper. Big dog loves the snow and will take her chew stick after breakfast and go out and lay in the snow to chew it. H has taken big dog to the school to run around quite a bit but I’ve rarely taken little dog on a short walk all winter.

We’ve also missed several of the storms you guys in downstate NY and CT have gotten, so until two Wednesday’s ago my lawn had been bare since the beginning of January. It was a bummer coming home from Florida and seeing snow again. Big dog doesn’t even mind the bitter cold. I did have to be careful not to let her stay out too long, though.

Several family members in Augusta felt the earthquake – some of whom still do not have power after the ice storm earlier in the week. They are feeling pretty beleaguered.

Another 6 inches forecast for tomorrow night.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it on this thread (no longer see “search” option), but where can I find “ice melt”? I’ve already called the big box stores, without luck.

H looked in both Lowes and Walmart yesterday and there was nothing.

toledo - a couple years ago I sent one of my kids to get ice melt. Instead, they came back from the gas station with one of those large bags of salt for that people use in their water softeners. I don’t know about pet safety, etc but this stuff will work and it is half the price.

No snow shovels or ice melt in my area, either. I prefer not to put down ice melt. I noticed that if I shovel at a right time, I can get by without salt most of the time. With power snow what’s left after shoveling blows away and heavy snow melts away.

Not speaking for Toledo, but living in the same area I will tell you we have a SEVERE case of not only snow but serious ice build up on our drives, sidewalks and lower driveways - we are talking a couple of Inches + in spots of dangerously slippery ice . We have feet of sow n the ground and have had no melting except for one day two Saturdays ago when it rained and then the temp dropped to zero that night - it has created ice havoc around here! So at this point it may not be snow removal she’s looking for but ice removal to save her life from falling!!

(Our 3xday doggie walks are a real adventure these last couple weeks!"

You can speak for me anytime, abasket.

Seriously, thought, I did fall on our driveway last week, and almost again, this morning, so I’ve got to do something.

On a lighter note, I’ve seen two different icicle displays in my neighborhood One person formed a circle in their yard and another homeowner has them lining his/her driveway. I think I have enough to do something creative.

Softener salt definitely works if you can’t find ice melt. It’s a lot cheaper too.

My local grocery store has been the best place to find salt this year.

Oh good grief!

http://www.weather.com/news/winter-storm-rex-forecast-20140216

Also got the ice melt at the grocer. This year we got a power shovel, little brother to a snow blower, light enough for me to use it. Overnight, was out at midnight, so was neighbor’s chatty boyfriend. Funny time to connect. Today, the warn sidewalks are melting a lot of it. I’m near the coast, 4-5 inches. Worse was earlier in the week, when it was ankle deep slush.

You can also use cat litter if you run out of salt.

This has been a crazy weather year! Everyone is in need of a change. Weather is calling for freezing rain for the am commute. Then in the 50s later this week. There is a light at the end of the frozen tunnel!

Come on over and enjoy our rain, here in HI. We have been having cooler temps of 70s. There was sun the other day but showers now and for the next few days. FL was the only state without snow at last report. Ours is confined to the top of the volcano.
