Great....more snow!

Feel for all you folks up north. Of course, we will be moaning in August when it’s 108 degrees out and still in our drought.

In Dallas, we are in the 20’s and 30’s today, in the 70’s this weekend. It’s been a strange winter.

Lucky me! I’m supposed to fly to Phoenix on Friday departing Hartford at 9:20 via Philadelphia. We will just check tomorrow, and if it looks like my flight will be canceled, I’ll beg USAir to refund my ticket. Rebooking later is not going to work for what I need to do.

Still have a half a foot of snow on the ground here, but the highways are plowed and it’s warming up. I feel for all of you out east and north. Sounds as if this impending storm is going to be a big one.

I am just so damn sick of shoveling.

I have tennis elbow in both arms from shoveling.

I’m too old for this nonsense.

The southeast is in a panic. The entire newscast tonight (in NC) was about the weather. They say it will be the most snow in the last ten years. UGH.

this is my first year living in the SE. At least I missed this Chicago Winter. Quite miserable i’m hearing from my friends. PackMom, I’m more nervous about the NC drivers on the ice. A couple weeks ago, there were people in ditches from snow I left the house thinking didn’t even “count.” By the time I got home, I understood the difference. It’s the roads. There’s no salt, not enough plows, and nobody knows how to drive in it. Yikes!

poetgrl, stay home!!

It seems that salt makes a huge difference. We gravel here in the PNW but I wonder how effective it is for ice compared to salt. We’re down to just about 4 inches and I easily shoveled out the old car this morning since it’s unnecessary for the kids to take the 4wd to school since the only bad spot is our driveway.

Stay safe all of you in the Southeast!

Salt works well, depending on the temperature. When it’s very cold, salt loses its effectiveness and sand works better.

I’m in Hilton Head at the moment, and it’s just a bit of rain and some wind. No ice here.

It’s nuts here! People just get out of their car and leave it in the middle of the road and leave. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. I mean, they don’t pull to the side or anything.

poetgrl, please remind me where you are.

Predicts 50 degrees on Saturday! Will love that, rain or shine.

We’re down in the triangle area.

They’ll probable use terms like snowpocalypse or snowmageddon.

Sorry, but Snowmageddon 2014 is the Official name of the PNW storm. Ya’ll will have to settle for Snowpocalypse.

You think it’s bad driving in it…I just got a text from a friend, who is flying in it. I added the stuff in the parenthesis.

“Category 3 (that means you don’t have to see the runway to land), extended vectors so they could snowplow the only legal runway, autopilot failed at 1100 feet, transition to Category 2 (you have to see a little bit), American Airlines right in front of us missed his turnoff because he was skidding, expecting a go around but he finally cleared the runway, got clearance to land at 150 feet, landed okay, end of runway not grooved, went into full skid about 750 from the end of the runway, mashing brakes, full antiskid cycling, stopped right at the end of the runway, they closed the airport (again) right after we landed.”

I am really glad that I didn’t end up with that trip. He did an awesome job in a challenging situation.

I saw on the news all the cars abandoned in NC. Mindboggling to a northerner, but I remember a road trip my college roommate (who was from Atlanta) and I took from Atlanta back to school in Colorado after Xmas break our freshman year. Everything was fine until we were about 50 miles from Colorado Springs (with her behind the wheel) and there was a wee bit of snow on the highway. She freaked, slammed on the breaks. we spun out and ended up in the ditch in the medium. Thankfully, there were no other cars near us because we did several figures 8’s before hitting the medium.

My sister is flying tonight from Florida to NYC. Think she will just get in under the wire.

When is this supposed to END early Friday? 2:00 a.m. Or 10:00 a.m.?

Depends upon where you are, thumper. The radar still looks really bad, but I guess it could move a lot before Friday morning.

UCONN seems to be the only university in the state that hasn’t cancelled classes for tomorrow.

Oh that’s right, we have a two hour delay. [-(
