Great....more snow!

10 to 14" predicted where I live. Debating if we should play tennis thus morning. We’ve cancelled a lot already be because of weather, I think we’ve cancelled more than we’ve played lately.

It is coming down extraordinarily hard. I think we’ve got about six inches already. This is definitely The Bad One. I hope my friendly neighborhood 13- or 14-year-old boys show up this afternoon to shovel. I don’t know their names or where they live (other than “over there,” with a vague gesture), so they have to come see me.

How much snow does it take to cancel school in your area? A fun graphic…

<a href=“Map: 'How Much Snow It Typically Takes to Cancel School in the U.S.' - The Atlantic”>Map: 'How Much Snow It Typically Takes to Cancel School in the U.S.' - The Atlantic;

That was fun, Sue! And I’ll add that the solid blue north of the 49th parallel shows that snow never closes schools in Canada!

The snow on the deck is almost as high as the table. We have a foot of new snow that fell in the driveway and the storm is supposed to run for another 12 hours - with some sleet/rain coming in the middle.
As long as the power stays on and the rest of our trees don’t fall over we’re still doing ok
Looking forward to temps in the 60’s at the end of next week

Wow VH, we have about 3 inches so far. So, I did the check in for my flight tomorrow morning. Was able to move forward two rows on my first flight. Got TSA precheck in. Those are great, but probably means my flight will be canceled! I can’t have THAT much good luck!!

thumper, I guess we have it much worse than you this time. It was coming down a good two inches an hour for a while there. Now the snow has tapered off but it’s still precipitating – rain or sleet or some other nonsense.

Good luck with your flight. By tomorrow, this might have turned into “no problem” as far as flying is concerned.

It would be great if people would mention the state they are from when posting weather updates. :)

Albany area. Been snowing at my house since I woke up a bit before 7. We cancelled our tennis game this morning and most area schools were dismissing at 10:30. Not supposed to stop until sometime tomorrow morning and we may get bands later tonight of 3" an hour. I expect schools will be cancelled tomorrow even though roads will likely be plowed clean pretty quickly after it stops.

I’m enjoying a lazy day - still in my jams and watching the ice skating.

Wow, dismissed at 10:30?? Why did they even have them go in this morning?! Parents must be irate…

They do that so it’s counted as a day of school and they get their state aid for that day.

I have a question for those of you in the snow. My daughter is in Philly and was admitted to hospital last night. Am I crazy to be thinking of sending flowers? V day tomorrow. Crazy snow today. Would a florist even have anything? Should I just mail her a V day gift as planned since I don’t even know how long she will be in patient? Should I see if there is something besides flowers I can get delivered today?

Here schools need to be open at least through lunch to count as a full day.
But if the weather is bad, it seems a dangerous tradeoff.
Too warm to snow at 52F.
We need some snow in the mountains, but I admit I am enjoying the warm sun in Seattle.

Photo…call a local florist in Philly and ask.

VH, we are getting the heavy snow now. We cleared six inches and by the time we were done (an hour or so) there was a fresh inch at least where we started. It is now snowing sideways.

Did the strapping teens show up yet??

30s today. Feels downright balmy. I don’t trust it…lol

No strapping teens yet, but now it’s raining. Or sleeting. Or something else that’s gross.

I wonder if school will be canceled tomorrow too.

PhotoOp: I hope your D is OK.

Photo - most hospitals have a gift shop. They would probably have something to deliver. Hope she is not in too long.

PhotoOp, all of the hospitals our family has used have had florists and/or gift shops. I’ve been able to call the hospital directly and get flowers delivered the same day in most cases. Best wishes for your D.

PhotoOp, best wishes for speedy recovery for your D.

Snowing big huge flakes here. It’s very pretty. We are not going to get any change over to sleet/rain at all here. Plows have been down my street a few times, already, so for now no trouble keeping up. It’s also not particularly windy out, so no blowing and drifting to muck things up (at least for now.)

They upped our totals to between 12"-18" when all is said in done. Curious to see how accurate predictions are.

We just had a light dusting this time, but nearby towns received 4"+. As always, ice is the main problem. Dh was smarter this time and left work early yesterday, then held off until after lunch to go in today. Family and friends in Huntsville, Atlanta and Charlotte are having a much worse time with power outages.

Another problem has been heat pumps freezing up. I don’t know the details, but either they don’t have emergency heat strips on their heat pumps or the ice has just overwhelmed the system’s ability to defrost, so even though they still have power they have no heat.
