Law & Order marathons on rainy/cold days and House Hunters into the wee hours of the night…
@MaineLonghorn You will.
America’s Next Top Model. Although I haven’t watched it in years, I used t be devoted to it. Is it still on?
@MaineLonghorn - I watched Mad Men with my S1. He went away to college in the fall of 2010, and texted me during the first one he watched away from home. It became a four-year tradition for us.
I forgot about Dancing With the Stars, although I don’t watch that anymore either.
I don’t think that shows like Madam Secretary and The Good Wife and anything from Shondaland or Sorkin count because they are actually good. Even at their worst.
I like the international version of House Hunters. I also watch my fair share of Modern Family - but only for Cam - l just love Cam!
Lately I am also watching a lot of Blue Bloods.
I actually tape hours and hours of HGTV programming and then fast forward to only watch “the reveal”.
I am a bad person.
When I am sick at home I watch old Dr. Kildaire episodes on youtube.
Reruns of Batman (garish colors, cheesy special effects, and the camera angle is always crooked when they are in a villain’s lair). My teenage son doesn’t get it, asking, “Was this really a show that people watched?”
Also the old(er) HBO show D Ali G Show starring Sacha Baron Cohen.
H still occasionally watches the Waltons (which wasn’t a bad show, but not what I’d expect from someone whose taste runs more to Banshee and Peeky Blinders).
LOL @Consolation re America’s Next Top Model. I used to watch it, too, and I considered that to be something so completely out of character for me that no one would guess in a zillion years. A true guilty pleasure and dirty secret.(This was about 10 years ago).
At the time I was watching it, I happened to be working on something involving tv network execs and I commented to one of them that I didn’t watch much TV. He immediately said, “Ah, but you do watch America’s Next Top Model and Grey’s Anatomy.” I was completely gobsmacked because those were literally the only two shows I watched at the time.
When I asked, open mouthed, how he could possibly know that I watched America’s Next Top Model when it was so out of character, he responded that it was his job to know and that it was actually completely in character, utterly predictable! (This was a guy with whom I had discussed plenty of literary fiction and articles in literary journals).
I have watched “Big Bang Theory” and Seinfeld, but afterwards try to put my finger on what, if anything, I enjoyed about them and feel I just lost a bunch of time. I find them irritating and don’t ID with the characters, so why do search YouTube for free snippets of them? I dunno, honestly!
I would be curious to know the average # of minutes/hours that CC’ers watch on a regular basis - is it less than normal?
I also don’t know why shows like Modern Family, Big Bang etc. are “guilty pleasures” - unless you just feel guilty about watching tv!
Here are some “used to be” guilty pleasures: Desperate Housewives (one of the best shows of ALL time!), Kate +8 (just couldn’t stop watching that train wreck!) and Duggars (done with them now!)
I probably only actually “watch” 1- 1.5 hours of tv a day - at night, once it gets dark and I can’t play outside anymore.
It’s all relative. If you consider Big Bang trash, then it can be argued that watching it is a guilty pleasure. To me the lions share of current.network stuff doesnt even rate under “guilty pleasures” Even when H was working network TV, he could not get me to watch.
I tend to watch movies every night. Especially TCM or I stream stuff. Not really network TV. So that, (even if it is playing in the background while I work about the house) probably takes up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours time. Though on Sunday nights I tend to catch up on my regular watching and I pack in about 3-4 hours. (HBO programs, movies, some PBS stuff, etc)
My epic HGTV reveal watching only takes up about 1/2 hours time.
I admit to being a past regular viewer of John & Kate plus 8 too, as well as XX Kids and Counting. Just a couple of nights ago I stumbled across TLC’s craven attempt to keep the Duggar franchise going, a new thing called “Counting On” featuring only the older kids. What I noticed most is how much the girls have disregarded their momma’s teachings on feminine appearance. No cleavage or thighs, but they were all well made-up, hair done, big dangly earrings. One was wearing heels, and I think I actually saw pants on one!
Lots more tv watching when the weather is bad like now. Too cold to golf, too warm to ski. At least that’s the story I’m sticking to.
What? No one is watching The People v. O.J. Simpson. Talk about a guilty pleasure. Good acting (Courtney B. Vance), bad acting (John Travolta). It’s ending tonight, I’m very sad lol!
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills but this season is a bit of a snooze fest. Seriously, why I do I keep watching.
My D loves the game show network. She and my mom bonded over it when they were here over Christmas. Not my thing. Give me trashy tv any day.
I just caught the last OJ program.(and taping tonights!) WISH I had taped the whole thing. So good and yes so bad.
I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve watched Four Weddings.
I forgot all about People v OJ. Thx for the reminder, I’ll have to catch up on episodes missed OnDemand.
The acting, IMO, has been horrible - especially David Schwimmer. I think if I hear him say “Juice” one more time I will have to kill myself - so maybe I shouldn’t watch anymore!
The tv is hardly on except to watch the 7pm news with Lester Holt. I sometimes catch Dancing with the Stars or Shark Tank. That’s about it. I sometimes watch SNL/Jimmy Fallon snippets on my laptop.
Catfish the TV Show on MTV is my latest guilty pleasure. Even DH who can’t stand most reality tv has been sucked in on occasion.
During the day sometimes I get caught up in court shows like Judge Judy and The People’s Court. Crazy stuff on those shows sometimes!
I don’t consider Scandal a guilty pleasure for me, but my H watches too and I think he considers it one. He used to watch 90210 and Melrose Place with me way back when, and even now when something from one of those shows comes up in conversation, he’ll say, “not that I ever watched that!”
I think I watch some shows that are out of my demographic, so to speak, but I enjoy them. They might be considered silly by others:
The aforementioned Gossip Girl and Top Model (will be coming back in a revamped fashion to VH1)
The Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Is a person over 30 ever supposed to watch the CW?
