Harvard Waitlist Thread 2029

I don’t know what they’ll do to be honest. Harvard must have some contingency plan as they did with the kennedy school. Getting a visa should only take 5-10 business days after getting approved by the consular. I don’t know if Harvard will allow them all to defer, but from the looks of it they probably had to defer a good handful. If they don’t defer and can’t attend they will probably get their money back.

There is no way there’s only 31 undergrads from India

is anyone willing to call harvard when they open and ask for an update?

what is the HIO? i can’t find any info online about deferred students

Check the Harvard International Office (HIO) for updates. They regularly post important information for international students

Harvard is likely to settle in the next couple of weeks. So I expect just a handful from the WL. They filled their class with earlier waves and maybe 20-30 more come off.

They filled the class but maybe  there’s still going to be some issues even if they settle with the Trump administration. These legal, political, philosophical and social issues are much bigger than anything that could settle that quickly.

yeah a full fix would def take more time

I think it was Jack that made a very interesting point that I had not thought of before. Even if Harvard opens up more spots off the waitlist, will they try to fill them with foreign students from countries that don’t have immigration issues and give them preferential treatment off the waitlist to have more foreign students enrolled, or will Harvard agree with the position or policy that those open spots should get to go to deserving American citizens. I know that’s a very heated question but it goes to the heart of a lot of the growing philosophical differences between political parties in this country. The fact is that Harvard is growing its international population every year at the expense of enrollment for its own American citizens. Just wondering how much that will impact any potential settlement with the Government who takes the opposite position on that issue.

That’s what Harvard’s data says.

14 percent of the entire American population is comprised of legal immigrants (including naturalized citizens). I’m not sure what Harvard’s exact number of immigrants is but I think it is getting higher each year than the proportion of immigrants in the entire US population. I think this disproportionate number is a source of concern and contention on a deeper political level and I’m wondering if that is an issue that could be resolved within the next couple of weeks before school begins. I’m not taking a position I’m just trying to be factual.

Harvard is fully aware of its options and the timeline involving all parties. The university must decide what it is willing to fight for, and for how long. I don’t believe tuition, housing, or meal revenue are among its primary concerns. Here’s the link to Harvard 2029 dates and deadlines to give you some perspective on the timeline.

Thank you so much for posting these links. Quick question, if they pull a student off the waitlist right before the fall term, but after all the deadlines listed (to apply for housing, to submit AP scores, to take placement exams, and all the other deadlines that are listed in those links), what do the waitlisted students who get admitted at the last minute do about all those requirements?

They do all that stuff after getting in from the WL. Obviously for housing, you get what’s left

my guess is we’ll hear something by mid-July (next week). Transfer students were notified decisions will be made by mid-July.

Yes, you might end up squeezed into a triple without AC. I’ve also heard that some seminars have small class sizes and tend to fill up quickly.

Harvard traditionally has three waves: mid-May, mid-June, and mid-July. But the wording of the email saying the waitlist process will extend into ‘summer’ makes me wonder if it might go beyond mid-July. I really hope we get a decision sooner rather than later—for obvious reasons.

Most dorms don’t have AC.

Freshman seminars are a crapshoot to get into regardles of acceptance date. You might not get your preferred expos topic, but all expos sections suck. .most other courses will have no registration issues.
