Harvard Waitlist Thread 2029

was their deadline today or smth? kinda odd that they did it so late randomly otherwise

They need to reply to the email within 24 hours to receive the formal acceptance. And apparently someone just received formal offer this morning. No information on the deadline for accepting the formal offer though.

that’s weird i don’t see anything on reddit can you pls send link

also so are you saying that they literally texted students saying if you respond to this then you get in?

Search Duke in A2C.

So, there’s definitely some melt at the top, but the bigger force appears to be the F-1 visa backlog.

So many more people received the offer. Decision deadline 8/4.

Given the timing, it might just as likely be the investigation Trump launched two days ago. Duke may be trying to pack in as many kids as possible because of concerns about funding.

Doubt this is about funding. Many kids who received offers are FA.

Am I correct that all this new waitlist activity is just Duke. And we still have no news from Harvard?

Right. No news about Harvard. I was just speculating Harvard is subject to the same international student issue, if not more severe.

Based on Reddit posts this morning, Duke’s latest wave seems to be cherry picking full pay students off the WL. The Trump administration froze $108M in federal funds for Duke, a noticeable hit even for a university with a $11.6B endowment. The real story could be less about an F‑1 visa backlog and more about cash flow triage, or perhaps a mix of both.

harvard will most likely have a larger wave coming then, what’s the delay???

If you read all the replies, there are more than a few who need FA.

It might be because Duke has an earlier defer deadline than Harvard? I don’t really know I’m just guessing.

It’s been speculated that Jul-31 is the defer deadline. Have to believe that Friday is the day for movement on the waitlist. If not then we have to accept there probably is no wave coming.

ehh not necessarily i would say chances for 8/1 are 45% and 8/8 would be 55% just bc yeah they should do asap and they probably know that because it’s time for ppl to start moving soon and they want to make sure everyone is set before that but then also it’s kind of possible they need another week to analyze and check over their lists. but likely, i expect that they were well aware of this possibility and already have options lined up and ready to go for friday (might even start contacting tmr)

Can they make all those decisions within one day? I don’t know. And it doesn’t have to be on thursdays or Fridays. This is not like a normal wave if it happens at all.

no i still think they have already been deciding as the deferments come in, planning for backups. also i have it from a source at the school that they had initially assumed that all intl students would attend this fall (they registered as normal) but there hasn’t been any info beyond that.

I doubt Harvard will release the waitlist one day after the deferral deadline. They may have been meeting but really, anything can happen on that last day. Some may have already deferred then changed their minds, or some may have already accepted and for a whole host of reasons, now need to defer. It’s such a crapshoot on ultimate class size and Harvard’s approach seems to be very thoughtful, no matter how long it takes. My bet is on Aug 7-8.

For those needing FA, do you know if they were offered anything? I think that would say a lot about what’s really going on at Duke.
