Harvard Waitlist Thread 2029

I mean before the yield rates hit the 80%+ range. :frowning: :frowning:

For academic year 20-21, Harvard College overall enrollment (across all four classes) is 2k less than 21-22 and years after. This suggests the smaller enrollment number for that year was across all classes and way beyond yield management.

nope it was 41 for the class of 2028, meaning the 2024 seniors. i think you looked at the wrong numbers.

So do you predict that they probably won’t be taking many more from the waitlist? When do you think they will be kind enough to let us know what’s happening? I mean they putout that big e-mail letting us all k ow that they need more time to extend the waitlist into July so why would they not realize we have expectations to hear a follow up from them.

Interesting article

However, in a different context I just read that if Trump and Harvard agree to the new proposed settlement, then Harvard will be able to enroll all of its foreign students. If that’s the case, we on the waitlist likely are done.

If they finalize the Trump Harvard proposed negotiations then we will have to wait even longer because they will just get the wave of foreign students in right before and even a few days after, classes officially begin. This is all just a guess but I have a feeling we, on the waitlist, will have an even longer wait to hear anything from Harvard about the closing of the waitlist.

i don’t think them reaching a deal is all that likely tbh. harvard knows that if they make a deal, they look just as bad as columbia in the news if not worse because they put up a fight and showed the whole world that they will back down at the end of the day. at that point save your time and money and capitulate like columbia. it would be quite disgraceful.

also, i think there will still be a substantial number selected still. deadline to defer is today. international students can’t just get the green light in a couple days and book visa appointments and all and get everything done in a matter of just 2 weeks. it’s highly unlikely. it seems that those who have deferred so far by july 31st will likely remain as deferred.

I got the number from a doing a google search for Harvard waitlist admits class of 2024 and you go to this page on Leland consulting. This website says 34 (even lower than what I thought) from the Class of 2024 though admittedly, it’s not an official source so only conjecture. Can’t find it anywhere else and would be curious if anyone knows.

But given that the class was smaller by a few hundred, they couldn’t have taken too many off the waitlist who can’t get off the waitlist and would easily be able to fill that gap.

I mean that those who are taken off the waitlist can’t defer so they would have been able to fill that gap.

People on Reddit confirmed they actually received FA from Duke. So I’d speculate this wave was due to the international student visa issue, as opposed to funding.

I agree that Duke admits may be due to visa issues but NYT reported the White House is asking for ~$500 million from Harvard, so the lack of FA for waitlist admissions is not surprising. My guess is Harvard is considering traditional institutional needs (like concentration, location, background) and financial needs. They should have more news (email or acceptances) by the end of next week in my opinion.

So from August 1 to 17, we’ll likely see Harvard’s waitlist decisions trigger a domino effect across the board. Lol.

Yeah. Harvard may have its own view about funding. What I wanted to suggest is that colleges do use waitlist to make up for the gap due to international deferments. I guess we’ll see whether this is true to Harvard very soon.

I bet by tomorrow or Monday, we will either get a message from H on their final waitlist timing or receive actual decisions. Please H, put us out of our misery soon so we 100% move on. :frowning:

I totally agree!!! :folded_hands:

That decision applies to international students who choose to defer. But what about those facing last-minute travel issues? If a deal isn’t reached with the Trump administration by August 15, even students with valid documents might not be able to enter the U.S.

Where are those of you who are waiting for Harvard currently committed?

This is kind of unrelated, but I’m curious why an International Student admitted to Harvard would not defer admission. After all, there is so much uncertainty even if someone gets a VISA, and I highly doubt a deal will be reached until next year. However, I do think one will be struck in early 2026, and most International Students who defer this year would be able to attend then.

I took a look at the Class of 2024 thread as someone suggested here before and eerily it is similar to our conversation. One person said that about 300 students deferred in that class. It’s unclear still how many came off the waitlist but everyone on that thread got rejected by Aug 4 (last comment saying “good bye”!). They were notified by either getting an e-mail notifying them of a status update, or they went to check their portal and learned the waitlist was closed.

That’s good intel. I have a feeling now after seeing that, that it will be the same for this year on or about Aug 4th

On a side note, did transfer admission results come out? I believe someone said that those would be released in mid-July, and I’m wondering if those were impacted by the International Student situation.
