Transfer student here–we’re still waiting too. I sent a second LOCI 2 weeks ago, and they replied on July 23 letting me know they didn’t have any new updates yet.
Thank you for sharing that information with the group.
it is yeah. i think their case is similar that the reason not many ended up getting off the waitlist was bc the upperclassmen also deferred, and i think the same will happen this year since the issue applies to all international students. thus, i also expect very few if any off this year.
I think the scenario is a bit different, just because there are so few transfers. I haven’t heard of anyone on the internet (i.e., Reddit, College Confidential) who was accepted. Including myself, there are 3 waitlisted transfers that I know of.
I’d like to hope that they would’ve let us go earlier if there were no possibility of us getting off the waitlist (unlike with first-years, Harvard doesn’t have that much need or incentive to take transfers), but I’m happy where I’m going and am not placing too much weight on a negative outcome.
For this year, I don’t think the vast majority of the upperclassmen internationals left the country. So they would have no visa issues.
Maybe i didn’t understand what you are saying, but how do the upperclassmen deferments affect how many students get off of the waitlist? wouldn’t harvard already consider these deferments during the REA and RD cycle and keep spots for them? It’s not like upperclassmen who defer only get spots once other people back out
That was in response to the question about transfers, who won’t be entering as first-years
This is my thought as well–the visa hardship affects mainly international students who aren’t already studying in the US. Even if upperclassmen deferment were an issue, there wouldn’t be nearly enough transfers to deal with the issue. Harvard takes 12-15 transfers each year
why wouldn’t they have left the country? i’m sure a good number go back home for holidays post internship and all
I think they were advised not to leave the country given the political climate.
okay so assuming this then there may be first year spots. can anyone call today and ask i will do same and we can compare our answers
Pomona college
Carnegie Mellon University
Princeton
is there no word about anything today yet???
I would advise you to be patient. This is the most irregular admissions cycle for Harvard so why expect their notifications to be regular? Bet on next week to yield more information.
mit. one of my friends on the harvard waitlist is committed to stanford and the other to wharton
Has there been any news about a wave today?
I haven’t heard anything. But we are one message away from 1,000 messages on this thread. I wonder if that is a record
it is not look at the class if 2024 for comparison
