Heh, My Public High School is on Wikipedia

^ Does your school system face budget cuts? If you lived in California, it would be quite a problem. Some schools might face shutdowns.

No, actually, we have actually enjoyed suplusses these last 5 years. We’re building “Taj Mahal” schools, they were going to buy laptops for all the students, but that was stricken down (as stated in the article)… teachers have received raises even during economic downturn, my school got new facilities (cafeteria, guidance center, music department, foreign language department, etc.). So, I guess we don’t face the same issues as in CA.

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Lucky you. I mean, for a public school system to run SO MUCH! What a luxury.

Check mine:

No duh, NYC has the largest PS system, LOL. I thought that was common knowledge.

Yeah, I always thought NYC had the biggest school system. I mean, it’s NYC. Go figure.

My cousin is in pompano beach and really I thought this was odd she said “Florida has the worst school system” Could have sworn it would be Michigan!

How many people on here’s schools are facing budget problems. My school has totally abandoned field trips this year. We are looking for next year to be even worse because if the wheat harvest is bad this year (we are a farming community) which it will be, then there will be almost no tax revenue. I was just wondering if anyone else on here goes to a small school, and if you do, how is your school coping? Are you having money problems too?

my school can’t afford paper… It’s great.

My school gets $15 million dollars a year, but they don’t know how to manage it.

haha, my district couldn’t afford paper or textbooks, but of course they had enough money to build a huge new administration center with marble floors and granite countertops. Our school was supposed to get renovated like a decade ago, but budget cuts ruined that plan. So, now we’re in a building with orange and brown lockers from the 1970s, 4-5 textbooks per room (we just work in groups and share 1 textbook between 5-6 of us), and if you want to print something you need to bring your own paper! I don’t think ours are necessarily the result of budget cuts as much as unresponsible spending.

Yeah, I would say that is unresponsible spending. Our school is very careful about how much money it spends. I can say that for the most part they are very responsible. But perhaps this comes from years with no money. Since we are a rural school, we don’t get much funding like the bigger schools (Oklahoma City, Tulsa, etc…) get. Basically everything comes from our community. Yet we are still one of the top schools in the state. Our elementary school is the number one school in the state of Oklahoma. So, even though we are a relatively underfunded school, we still receive a fairly good education in relation to the rest of our state. Then again that isn’t saying much because Oklahoma has one of the worst “report cards” in the nation.

Only $15 million?!?! We get $1.2 BILLION in revenue, not including our SPLOST! And, we tend to spend wisely, though those Taj Mahal schools are kind of a waste IMO.

i’m not sure how county or state financing for my school is, but our community pays for a lot. our community organization got us a “cyber cafe” (basically computer lab with coffee machines and no restrictions on websites etc.), a several million dollar high tech language lab, and a bunch of other obscure, sort of unneccesary stuff. we also have free food donated by various local restaurants etc. once a month or so. good stuff.

Let’s revive the post!
