Hi, I would be paying half that amount. As I said my parents and I will contribute.
So 3.5k - 7k

Really not sure if UNC is worth paying up to 70,000…
In that case I would just go to UMich or Berkeley
By your 4th year it looks like it would be in the high 60s. Whether that is worth it, or if any of your other schools are worth it, is a personal decision.
Those schools are more expensive. Were you accepted?
Yes I was. I took them out of the running cause UNC was closest to our budget
Then that means those two schools are not in budget.
That’s why I didn’t include them. It was a joke
I don’t see Cornell or CMU as being in budget either. If you are choosing between these 3 schools, UNC is your best option.
Yep, agreed. Although to me, the next step in this chain of logic is to ask what makes UNC worth the cost difference over Pitt (or PSU). But at some point, one has to find one’s own “sweet spot,” and UNC may be where the balance between cost and preference lands for the OP.
I vote for Pitt without working.
If you hate Pitt go to UNC. There is no advantage of UNC over Pitt for premed. None.
UNC is technically possible, but it’s going to use up everything with some student debt leftover. I still agree with the other posters. Pitt will let you graduate debt free and you can use the remainder for medical school if you choose that route.
Pitt and CMU have a cross registration program, so if you attended The Nerd Farm you could take advantage of neuroscience classes at Pitt. The campuses abut each other and going back and forth should be relatively easy.
Do you have your heart set on Neuroscience / BioMedE / CompSci? Note that all of those are demanding programs, where many students either have a change of heart or are shown the door. Think about back-up plans in case it is not what you expected.
You like the weather in Pittsburgh? Did you grow up in the UK or something? Da Burgh gets around 30 days of sunshine per year.
But… wouldn’t this be an argument for attending Pitt, for $26K/year less, and cross-registering at CMU…?
The cross-registration would work a bit better this way. Techincally you are only allowed to register for a class that your home school does not offer. This would work if CMU offers say Robotics etc that Pitt does not. So a Neuro major at Pitt could take up to 18 credits at CMU in an area that is not offered at Pitt.
Plus you only pay Pitt prices for CMU classes!!! Brilliant!
My S19 cross-registered at CMU for 2 classes… in the music dept.
Either or… though my guess is at both schools it is harder to cross register at their most competitive flagship programs, which would be CompSci at The Nerd Farm
Unc is plenty good for undergrad. Prob your best choice. What happened with your in state flagship?
Student lives in PA. Pitt has been eliminated, and I didn’t see any mention at all of Penn State.
It was mentioned here:
Sheesh. The kid’s best option by far is Penn State, in-state, and with a big scholarship. They can do clinical stuff during the summers. CMU/Cornell/UNC at more than twice the price is a huge mistake!
Hey guys,
After visiting all of my schools, I decided on UNC-CH honors! I managed to negotiate some extra need-based aid to get me down to 50k/yr.
My plan is to pursue the pre-med track majoring in solely neuroscience and potentially minoring in CS. UNC is not very well known in BME or CS but have a really prominent biostats program that I would apply to in my 2nd year, which could be a viable backup in case academia/med isnt for me.
Thank you guys!
