No, I’m not sure anyone in this thread saw that I was interested in CS/BME. Pitt is not particularly renowned in these subjects and as stated several times, I’m not interested in their program despite the superb neuroscience.
Yea, again PSU was a hard school to decline but having to do clinical stuff during the summer was a big con for me.
Again, these are my personal decisions!
Congratulations on selecting UNC

With Neuro , chem minor is almost a default for pre med schools

BME 124 credits and it is COMBO program with UNC and NCSU ,
===
CS

Both CS and BME needs a separate application
Neuro/CS dual major with Chemical minor may be possible , as more credits are needed, it is going to take more time and cost as fees will be credit based
Doing EC’s and MCAT and othering to get into medical college will become a stretch
UNC is one of the top schools we have in list and it is going to cost us very less , as med school is our goal, our major and choices and synergies will be focused to meet that
Congratulations ! Solid reasoning and with the lower price, more comfortable whatever you decide to do.
For others who ask the question, how were you able to negotiate more aid at a need based (by formula) school.
Congrats on your selection.
Not exactly negotiated - there was a mistake in one of our documents that prompted an update
Hi guys - not sure if anyone will see this but
I was admitted off the waitlist for UCLA and Duke and was wondering what anyone here thinks (Accidentally put Duke as an R in my original post, it was a WL)
UCLA (71k)
Duke (83k)
UNC (42k)
If still considerIng med-school or other professional grad school where you pay, save the money for that and stay on the path to UNC. Those are great acceptances, but the funding seemed to be a concern for you and that gap is a big one.
And you can take classes at Duke if you want with the exchange.
Your original post says you are interested in an MD/PhD or a PhD…if a med school spot did not pan out. You indicated that the “only” cost would be for your bachelors.
Regardless, I would still attend UNC. It is a lot less money, you may change your mind about a career, medical school or other type of professional school etc…and there is absolutely no reason why you could not meet your career goals at UNC.
Congratulations on your acceptances.
Really…UNC is a terrific school. What are the reasons you stayed on the waitlist for the other two? Think about those reasons and figure out if they are compelling enough to switch now.
In an earlier post you said:
Based on this entire thread I believe that you are indeed quite firm on your career goals. This determination will help you a LOT in achieving your goals. So, let’s stay focused on your goals.
You can achieve these goals with a degree from UNC, or from UCLA, or from Duke. These are all very good universities which will prepare a sufficiently academically strong, hardworking and determined student very well. Taking on debt can however make it much more difficult to achieve your goals.
I think that your best bet to achieve your long term goals, when choosing between multiple very good universities, is to choose the one that you can afford. Congratulations on being accepted to UCLA and Duke. These acceptances suggest that not only do you and I think that you can achieve your goals, admissions as these highly ranked universities also agree. However, affordability is important to help you get there.
Exactly. This is what I think also.
I just wanted to see how it would pan out - Duke had always been a dream school of mine and the waitlist forms were quite simple.
Hold it…the thread title now says UNC is $60,000 and initially it said $40,000…wht happened?
You wrote this in a post above. So…what is your net cost at UNC. If the subject title isn’t correct, please change it…or I can do it for you.
If the net price of UNC is indeed $42,000 a year…go with UNC. Save your money for medical school…
The tuition situation changed. Could you do it for me? That would be great?
Duke is not worth twice the cost of UNC- especially since I’m guessing the change in tuition means you got an award and those usually come with benefits like mentorship or special experiential learning opportunities. But even if that’s not the case… that difference is not worth it.
Congratulations on 2 tough admits but… stay the course
These other two schools are not worth the increased costs over UNC-CH. sorry, they just aren’t.
Changed to $42k (already in the title) or it’s now $60K - because in message 103 you noted - you negotiated - and then clarified - to get even better cost at UNC.
Confused.
Anyway - unless you can afford the others (and that means grad school too), UNC is your best bet.
If you can afford the others and grad school - then pick where you want - but they are not necessarily any better and unlikely to deliver any better outcomes than UNC.
Good luck.
@tsbna44 the OP asked that the title reflect the more recent tuition amount ($42k) and asked that I change it…so I did. That is the corrected amount for UNC.
Disagree. It all comes down to the type of college experience you want. If you desire an intimate intellectual/residential community where you can meet some amazing folks, go to Duke. If not that important, go to a large state school…
