I’m currently choosing between cornell aap, WUSTL, and Rice , I would like to pre-law, any suggestions on which school I should choose? btw Is it hard to internal transfer from cornell aap to arts & sciences? Thank you a lot!
None of those schools have an official pre-law program.
You can probably study basket weaving and still get into law school if you have a good GPA and LSAT.
Some law schools will also take the GRE in lieu of the LSAT.
These are all great options. One thing to consider is that if you attend WashU undergrad, they will waive the LSAT and give preference for admission to WashU Law.
Cornell AAP is a curious choice for someone wanting to go to law school. Internal transfers are allowed but not guaranteed, even if you meet all the requirements. You’d have to start in AAP for two full semesters.
Do you have any preferences on weather or geographic location? Where would you be traveling from? Houston and St. Louis have large airports, while Ithaca has a small regional airport. If flying, most students fly in to Syracuse or NYC and take a bus to get to Cornell.
All great schools! Congrats on your acceptances and good luck with your decision.
Rice hast the residential college system - you might find that appealing?
Listen, you can go to Cornell College in Iowa (not University), Washington College in Maryland (not university) or Rider in NJ instead of Rice and still get into the same law schools…so take law out of it.
So you have three great names - which do you prefer - and it might be for things like a specific major or housing or weather or airport access (technically all three have) or sports or cost or more.
Only you can decide.
Three reasonable people could each choose one from this fantastic list.
Congrats and best of luck.
ohh that’s cool!! I’ll definitely consider that as a factor for going to washu!
yeppp I applied to art school for Cornell, (idk why I did but I just happened to(regretted the choice later)) . Two full semesters is a lot.. and I heard Cornell is very cold. I think I would honestly prefer a large airport better and city vibes, but im hesitating on giving up Cornell since it’s an “ivy.” Thank you for your help!
yep I like rice’s residential college system a lot and find it really appealing! cost is luckily not a problem for me. thank you for the advice!!
My D is currently attending Rice and loves it. It’s highly collaborative and they have a lot of international students.
It’s a very diverse campus and they have a strong sense of community among the students.
It sounds like Cornell is not the best fit for you. It definitely is cold and definitely not urban.
is the stem / pre-med vibe very strong at rice? love the sense of community there!
Yes. It’s literally across the street from MD Anderson, one of the world’s best cancer hospitals.
You can do tons of research at Rice.
It’s also located in one of the nicest areas in Houston.
This part I can confirm. Cornell also gets lake effect snow from time to time. My first visit there was over a February vacation (visiting from a different university) and we got several feet of lake effect snow in two days. You can love this or hate this, or just deal with it.
I think that you are choosing between three excellent and academically challenging universities. The fact that you got accepted to all three suggests that you are ready to handle the challenge. You can get a great education at any of them and should just try to figure out which one will be the best fit for you.
Ithaca is a really nice college town but the winters in upstate NY are brutal.
I know people in the Syracuse/Utica area have to shovel their roof to keep it from collapsing under the weight of the snow.
Im assuming Ithaca probably has some similar snow storms.
yeaa ik, but my mom wants to earn bragging rights for me being in an ivy tho hahahaha (cuz im international and most ppl only know about the ivies here)
oof the snow seems scary (i never lived in a cold place for long before) and also thank you for the kind words! I never thought I would get accepted into these 3 and im beyond grateful, its def a hard choice to choose between three amazing schools!
I don’t know what to tell your mom, but I think it would be a bad idea to do an academic program you don’t want to do just because it was at Cornell, and Cornell is in a certain athletic conference.
Rice and WashU are both excellent for a variety of different interests, and therefore good choice if you are interested in law school. I would pick one of those, and whichever you liked the best overall.
