Is there anywhere I can find a list of when applications go up?

all apps should be up by sep 1 at latest, but for common app schools it’s up by aug 1

…next Thursday.

Georgetown’s app has been up for a while.

I’m not applying to Georgetown. Too close to home.

how much time do you guys expect to spend on the app itself? The core stuff not the supplements

^ The core is just basic info. I can fill that out in like 15 minutes.

and we only have to do that once right? And the essay we write is sent to all colleges we choose, along with the individual supplemental essays?

^ Yes indeed.

Found out today my school just cut our whole business department. Now I can’t take Entrepreneurship and our Business Professionals of America sponsor is gone (she got laid off). I’m really upset for many reasons and I’m using CC to vent.

The business club is gone and I was suppose to be president. I’m so sad because we (the teacher and I) had plans for major recruitment.

One of my favorite teachers is gone. I was going to have her write a recommendation.

Now I can’t take Entrepreneurship, a class I was excited for. So now I have an open spot in my schedule. I might fill it with either AP Econ or AP Stats.

Now I have to take Spanish IV. It’s actually a long story as to why because of this, but I do.

I hate Chicago Public Schools and I wish nothing but intense karma for Rahm Emmanuel (Chicago mayor). Stupid budget cuts. Meanwhile we happen to have money to buy a new stadium for a private university. I’m beyond irritated. -__-

^ That sucks… It sounded like a fun course.

Tinny - you can still have that teacher write the rec, if she’s taught you and knows you.

Can’t you run the club without the teacher though?

Sucks about the classes. US politics suck. We had budget cuts as well which meant students have to do and pay for all online courses themselves unless there’s a major need which kinda sucks.

^ I know in my school, that all clubs need an advisor running it.

@TinnyT, I’m really sorry about that
I hope you and the club find some way to push through and keep on going!

Lol, so many of my teachers from last year left the school right before my senior year. ***…: Principal, English teacher, History teacher, Spanish teacher (I’m asking him for a rec), Theory of Knowledge teacher (same as Spanish), class advisor, college counselor (!!!).

Really depressing…I won’t even recognize our school next year. It was such a small, tight-knit community.

We change math teachers like every year, it’s sad. I won’t be surprised if my schedule changes because they switched AP calculus teachers.

Thanks for the support. :(

No I can’t get another teacher to run the club. At least not for next year. Business Professionals of America (BPA) is a national organization (like NHS) and our school is a chapter within the Illinois district. The new teacher sponsor would have to learn about BPA and the many things that go along. BPA is a major time commitment (the sponsor would have to travel all over the city, state, and nation), only business teachers would be willing to give up their time for that. Now that we have no more business teachers, we have no more business clubs. It’s saddening. My principal said she will try to bring it back in a few years, but I will be long gone in college. Ahhhh, oh well. At least I got a free trip to Florida before the club vanished.

And I can’t get a rec from her. She was never my teacher but she knows me better than most teachers because we’ve spent so much time together through the club. She was going to be my entrepreneurship teacher, but that’s not happening…

Welp, nothing I can do now. Time to adjust and move on.

I know I’ve been cluttering this page with my rants and sadness, but I just finished my common app essay. It’s really personal. Personal enough for the adcoms to understand me and my personality but not enough to ruin the essay. It’s 687 words though, so I need to do some chopping. I’m actually quite satisfied with what I put together. With the right type of editing, I might have a grand slam on my hands. :D

^ That’s great~! I created an outline in my head a couple of days ago and I just need to get it down on paper. It isn’t personally, it’s more of a philosophical piece, I’m pretty proud of myself ;).

@tinny good job on the essay and I feel you on the club, I’m in the same situation w/one of mine.

In lighter news, I’m done w/standardized testing!!! 34 ACT w/o writing and 33 w/writing
sorry to brag, just relieved

@Tinny try to eliminate to be word forms, condense certain words like use 1 word that could replace 2 or more or make contraction (not sure if this would make it more informal), make sure you’re in active voice, and you should be able to decrease your word count.

Now only if I could write/create a good essay… Is it okay if it’s 500 words or is that not enough words?
