High School Class of 2014

I have two safeties, two matches, two reaches lol.

^That’s actually perfect. I wish I had that

Have you all started looking at the common app yet?

I have two safeties, two matches, and like seven reaches lmaoo. I have quite amount of essays to write but as long as all of them are done before school starts I will be in a great position. Application fees are the least of my worries. Chicago Scholars allows me to apply to five schools for free. If I do Posse, I apply to those schools for free. Northwestern’s application is free for Chicago students. And I still have the NACAC fee waivers. Only thing I will pay for in the college admissions process will be test scores.

I love Naviance. Especially the scattergrams. They really put how colleges view my school into perspective. Many kids with unlikely chances (according to CC) get accepted into top schools.

1 match, 1 safety, 10 Reaches.
That is the point of having a safety after all :D

3 safeties, 3 matches, and 7 reaches here. I probably need to cut back, but I like each of my schools, and I’d like to have some options so I’m not stuck with just a few schools if I don’t get into my top reaches…

I’m applying to 8 schools, I have no clue how I got it down to that.

Lol, 1 safety, 2 matches, 7 reaches.

I second what Jwen556. Gotta go for gold and if all else fails, there’s always the safety! :D

4 safeties, 1 match, 1 reach!

I can get obsessive about scattergrams… It’s bad… I had the highest sat score on any of the scattergrams until I looked at one last night and found out someone got like 10 points higher now that it’s updated, haha
Idk what my list even is but I know it’s pretty reachy!

How do you guys define safety schools and match schools? Like, if you think you have a 50/50 shot of getting in, is it a reach or a match?

I consider that a reach. Match is like 80-90% for me (though I could see something as low as 60% being match). Safety is 100% plus merit aid likely/automatic

For anyone curious, I posted a request on the parent forum for essay help. and 2 very nice parents responded. I pm’ed them just now.

Well I consider a safety a school I have a really good chance of getting in to. Like I am more than likely to get in and would be surprised if I didn’t. Then I have Matches which I have a good chance of getting into. Something like 60-80% Not a complete crapshoot but not certain. Then low reaches are schools where I have a decent chance and high reaches are schools that are crapshoots.

I actually had a college dream lats night. I was submitting my app for WashU and it asked for things about pets and siblings, but I forgot to fill that section out so I had to go back and redo it.

Yeah, I’d say above 90% would be a safety, 60%-90% would be a match, and below 60% would be a reach.
What do you guys think about this site for determining percentages? [What are my chances?](http://www.satscores.us/mychances/chance_me.asp)
I know it doesn’t take a lot of important stuff into account, but idk.

I haven’t dreamed about it quite yet. I’m weirdly excited for August 1…I want to see what i’ll be dealing with.

It’s weird that college applications are actually coming up, they’re not far away anymore… Not ready for this haha

I’m going to be so emotional in December. I’m applying to 4 EA schools and 1 ED. And college applications officially begin on Thursday. I can’t wait. I’m more interested about the supplements though.

2 EA schools, 1 RD, 1 rolling admission. December’s gonna be pretty exciting

1 SCEA school, 1, possibly 2, public EA schools.

I think the reason writing college essays is so hard is because you have to think of your life in terms of events. Usually we don’t pay attention to what happens to us, it just happens. But for essays you have to analyze and reflect on specific instances in your life, which is actually kind of difficult.

I’m still a bit confuses on matches… My standardized test score is pretty high, and it is about average for most ivies. But obviously I can’t get into all of them, so what would be matches?
