High School Class of 2014

I don’t like Common App. I made an account and half way through filling out the different fields, I said “to hell with this.” I’m applying to each of my schools using either their online application or paper application.

^ lol, the common app is not that bad. It took me a total hour to do most of it (I only have one or two sections to do). And paper application? Lol what? What’s paper?

I haven’t made an account yet, but what’s this about a new email you have to make?

Okay my activities varied on hours from week to week. Especially when I’m doing theatre, it might be 3 hrs of rehearsal one week and 25 hours another

@superstarlala Exactly! During the fall I’m doing Student Council stuff like 15 hours a week, but the rest of the year we barely meet.

I guess we’re supposed to just average it out.

It’s so frustrating though because I don’t want to put 25 hr/week if that was only one week, but I don’t want to put 3 hr/week because I did a lot more than that. I guess I’ll average

Average it, and round up to the nearest nice number e.g. 15 hours a week instead of 13.

Did anybody else have trouble adding schools to their list. Every time I tried adding Penn it said that “University of Pennsylvania is not configured.” What does that even mean?!

Yeah, like when I search for Middlebury and Bowdoin nothing comes up, even though they’re both on the common app…
And cant get any supplements, argh… Not that I’d have time to write them now anyway, haha

What are you guys doing if you don’t know if you’ll have a class first or second semester next year? Just waiting until you get schedules?

I just put for what I am assuming it will be. I can change it if need be once I get my schedule in a week

@crc016 yeah it does the same with me for upenn.

And I start school next Wednesday. My schedule is still up in the air because I have schedule conflicts with certain classes. :/

Are NONE of the supplements up?

A few supplements were up for me.

Can I have your opinion on listing honours? We have to pick 5 for the immediate list, and I have stuff that’s immediately relevant to my major studies:

One of 18 selected to represent country in an international competition (2013)

Best in Category for Sigma Xi Online Research Showcase - judged by members of the Scientific Research Society, and I got made a Sigma Xi member as an HS student

2nd in Regional Fair (biggest in country),

top 20 (silver medal) for research (2012), various smaller awards for science fair

Participant in a provincially competitive program for research - gave me 6 weeks of funding.

I also used to live in NY and won state awards for writing (Honourable mention for best news story) and business (FBLA - 2nd place, 4th place in New York). Awards for Model UN/Debate/Speech.

I also got selected to advise my Minister of Education for a year, again provincially/state competitive.

Should I just pick my top awards regardless of field, or the ones that mean the most to me or?? Because I don’t just do science (though I love it!).

The questions are up for UChicago and Harvard. None of the supplemental essays are up for the schools on my list.

ecouter, those all look pretty solid so I’d just pick the ones that mean the most.

@ecouter list the ones that YOU feel most proud of…don’t add ones you think will give your application a certain feel or direction.

It won’t let me find Harvey Mudd on the common app, even though they list it as a member and HM says to apply through it. D:

@ybrown, that’s what I’m thinking. A bunch of the main science stuff happened in one year, hah, so I feel like it’s repetitive.

@neontissues, I’m proud of a few things especially but I don’t know about the rest. That’s why I’m having a hard time deciding, even though I guess they’ll see it again on ECs. The competition is so tough from my region :(.
