High School Class of 2014

Got the generic invite to apply for Questbridge, but I’m actually contemplating it.

@Tinny, I got the email too, considered for 5 minutes, then closed the tab because I’ve put way too much consideration already into applying EA vs. RD. -.-

I’m on Plucker’s Hall of Flame. Honors or not?

Sorry Repede, I don’t think so. I had a friend that was on the FBI top 10 (prestigious national recognition) and got rejected from every single school. Colleges are getting stingier by the day with what they consider awards.

When do we find out if we’re national merit?

Meh Questbridge sounds like a lot of EXTRA work and I’m not even that competitive as of now. Plus I have Posse, so hopefully I can go far with that.

Hmm. Spanish Club at my school meets on a very sporadic basis. Like, we had about 4-5 meetings all year. Not sure what I should put for # of weeks or hours per week.

Not to mention Ski Club, where we had 1 meeting at the beginning of the year, 2 trips during the winter, and that’s it.

Just curious. Anybody here admitted into WISE at MIT for September?

Bleh. The honors and awards portion only has a few spots, so I won’t be able to fit my Model UN awards on there. I have over 20 and plan on winning more this coming year, so I don’t want to just pick my best ones because I put so much effort into them.
Could I include an attachment listing all of my MUN awards separately, or would that seem snobby or whatever?

Just put MUN awards or something.

Idk, I’ll ask my counselor haha.

On the Common App, if I have a research lab summer internship, what do I put it under for Activities?

Does it hurt my application if I don’t fill in optional contact info (such as that for my parents)?

Alright its time to start applications. But…how many colleges should I apply to?

I have 14 on my list right now.

lol. Honors: -MUN awards (several, trust me)

@collegeluva101: isn’t there a career-oriented section under activities, or did they get rid of that?

@donewithh As many as you can afford + handle. I’ve seen people apply to as many as 19, but that’s probably overkill no matter what.

@vivendium, Thanks, I’ll put it under career oriented

Also, if it’s a summer thing, for grade levels, do I put the grade prior to which I participated in the activity?

@collegeluva101 Nope, one of the little help things on the side I read today said to put the grade after the summer you did the activity.

@upsilon, Lol, I got confused again, but then I realized I worded my question wrong. You basically said what I meant. So, just to clarify, what I’m doing this summer counts as Grade 12 correct?

That moment when you realize you don’t have much honors to share…

And questbridge im considering as well. My college list is still mysterious too.
