High School Class of 2014

@HateBeinSober, I think for most colleges (I know this for Stanford), they do not require any standardized tests taken prior to 9th grade. I would check your schools’ admissions sites to be sure, or email your area representative if they don’t state it on the website.

Alright, thanks. Stanford was the one that was worrying me because of how they write it on their website. “We require ALL scores from ALL testing dates,” etc.

The common app pretty much ruined score choice (since they make u say how many times u took the SAT) :(

You don’t have to self report.

@gomdorri Ah~ k-pop, the most addicting thing ever. I’m listening to VIXX right now lol. Anyway, I’m applying to: University of Pitt, Virgina Tech, Ohio State, University of the Sciences, Purdue, and the University of Maryland.

Anyone here applying to Claremont McKenna? Or any of the Claremont schools?

^ I’m applying to Pomona through the Posse Scholarship

@fantasy I bought 5 K-pop albums yesterday. SHINee’s 2 disc album, EXO Kiss, Ailee’s Doll House, f(x) Pink Tape, and SNSD’s IGAB. I’m getting 3 posters too! SO EXCITED!!

Anyways back to college stuff. Time to start on essay on LGBT rights for Georgetown WOOHOO! insert sarcasm

(potentially stupid question) If my SAT score is better than my ACT score, do I still have to report both?

@neontissues MEEE! I’ve loved CMC ever since I went to their MUN conference and admissions panel. My friends and I have this plan where we all attend one of the Claremont schools lol.

I don’t think so, depends on school.

Also, would anyone PM me their essays? As a rising sophomore, I’d love to see how you guys write and perhaps I can critique as well

@TinnyT are you applying to SFS? Their ‘important issue’ topic scares me because I don’t want to write on a topic that everyone else is going to write about. I predict that to be the Arab Spring, North Korea, etc.

@tinny what’s the posse scholarship?

AND OMG I HEART CMC SO MUCH

@vivendium I’m applying to Georgetown SFS and I KNOW my essay will have a generic topic lol. Probs something about china.

@vivendium Yeah I’m applying to SFS. That topic scared me at first. I wanted to be original as well, but I also wanted to write about something I cared about. Honestly I care about no other issue other than same-sex marriage, so my sincerity should really shine through my essay. I couldn’t write a decent essay about North Korea and have sincerity. It would be like “I don’t want them to bomb my favorite k-pop idols”. It would be awful. Also the thing I think is great about same-sex marriage is not many recognize it as a global issue when it is in fact is. Ok I’m rambling.

Good luck on finding a topic. Think about what issues in general you care about and try to bring that to an international view.

Edit: I just have to find a way to not go against any Catholic values in my essay. I still have to remember where I’m applying to.

@neontissues I could explain it but I really don’t know too much about it other than my counselor recommended me and I have an interview coming up. Here’s the website.
http://www.possefoundation.org/

@neontissues OMG same here. For both comments lol. I love CMC because it’s so happy and they have tea time which means free food! And I love their PPE program. Also, I was thinking about having China as my topic too lolololol. Something regarding female infanticide w/ a focus on India and China. Either that or the Greek debt crisis or the EU debt crisis in general, but that’s likely to be overdone too. Sigh.

@TinnyT I included North Korea in my Common App essay and I’m quite passionate about it, but I would be saying pretty much the same thing as everyone else. The personal essay for me is also gonna be about international relations with a focus on my personal life… do you think 2 essays on global stuff would be overkill? Also good for you for writing about LGBT rights! There’s a huge issue with that in Russia right now.

@vivendium Just out of curiosity are you Korean? And if North Korea is where your passion is then definitely write about it. Even if it others do write about it, they might write it like a research paper, something I doubt Georgetown wants from this question. I think they want to see where our heart lies, that’s just my opinion though. I don’t think it’s overkill. Like I said, if it is where the passion is, go for it! Are you using your common app essay for Georgetown’s Essay 1? Because I sure am lol.

Question about the SAT and SAT subject tests.

I took the SAT twice my junior year and didnt like the scores. I will be taking it again in the fall as well as the Math 2 Subject test. Should I list the colleges I want to send the scores to right now (on the collegeboard website) or wait till I get my scores back? Im afraid that if I wait till I get the scores back it might be too late to send to colleges…Im not sure…

@TinnyT I’m Chinese and Canadian  North Korea is one of my passions mainly b/c it’s what got me interested in IR, but I know more on other topics. I might go with the Greek debt crisis b/c I have cool facts about it, but idk if it would be interesting to someone else. Either that or infanticide, which would be more about cultural bias and humanitarian stuff.
And yes, I’m definitely using my Common App essay for the personal prompt. Haha

I have been using vines on vinescope to distract me from the fast-approaching realities of applying to college.
