High School Class of 2014

I think it’s worse if they used wave wrong once as opposed to using wave wrong the entire message.

Oh wow, way to go Amherst… yeah they did say “wave”, and they bolded it and then say “you read that right” just making it worse… haha
Pretty sure I noticed a couple typos on the common app site too, with other colleges though

They did it on purpose to draw your attention.

@LoveArtForever - I’m fairly sure that the highest cutoff ever in any state was a 223. Most states hover around 210-215.

When I’m filling out the Common App and it asks for “Honors” under the Education tab, is that only for honors given by my school? Most of the things I’ve won were through ECs, not school.

No…that’s why you can select National, International, State/Regional, etc. instead of School.

Yay! So can I put it for one of my honors even if it hasn’t happened yet? Actually I guess I could just wait but yeah…

I got well above my state’s highest ever cutoff, but I’m not putting it. Even if it’s literally a complete certainty that you’ll get it, you shouldn’t put it on there until you receive it.

In Texas, the NMSF cutoff ranges from 215-219, but I don’t think it’s ever been 220. Sophomore year I got a 219. Junior year… 213. Fail.

@ybrown: Aw, that stinks. It seems not fair that you wouldn’t get it…
@HateBeinSober: Yeah that makes sense… I don’t wanna be that kid that just assumes stuff

I’m in TX too. I got a 219. Ugh… Borderline.

@LoveArtForever, yeah I wish they let me use my sophomore year score haha, but it’s fine. My fault for being too complacent.

@my88keys, as far as I know it’s only been up to 219 once in recent years, so you’re probably good.

I feel really down on school/college lately. I don’t know why. I’m not looking forward to mountains of busy work and being forced to cater to the whims of capricious teachers. I’m guessing that it is what has sullied my taste for college too.

Meh, maybe I’m just burnt out.

I already have senioritis, ugh. Don’t wanna do this yearrrr… In my spare time I enjoy watching dorm room tours and packing for college videos on youtube for way too long.
I’m so not looking forward to all the work of HS or college though. Already procrastinating.

I wouldn’t call it senioritis, but I feel like I’ve been in high school for forever. Today, I dated a paper August 13, 2010. The years are blending together and I just want to leave.

I miss 2010…

I sure don’t. 2010 = hell. 2013 = my best year since 2007.

I think the thing is, we’re so excited for college we sometimes forget that we still have quite a few obstacles until we can reach that point where we are packing our bags. Just remember, all this application crap will pay off later.

Ugh, I really hate my indecisiveness sometimes. Just a week ago I was in LOVE with Penn, now I’m contemplating even applying. Ugh…I guess second thoughts are never a good sign.

I’ve made my list of… 16 colleges. Meh… It’s going to be a fun application season.

This is kinda random, but I have a question about rec letters and gifts. I’m asking my English and APUSH teacher for letters of rec, and I want to thank them by buying a small gift.
Would it be more appropriate to give this to them before applications are due, after applications are due but I haven’t received my results, or after acceptances and everything are out?
I tried searching on CC but it seems that everyone ‘frowns upon’ giving gifts to teachers. At my school, however, it’s considered kinda rude if you don’t. So I’m just wondering. :)

I would get it after applications are due.

^^ I’m giving my teachers who write me recommendations a gift. I plan on asking 4 teachers, my spanish teacher, my algebra 2 teacher, my chemistry teacher, and my world history/APUSH teacher. I’m buying them all gifts. I’m going to give it to them probably December so I can be like “here’s a gift for writing me a recommendation and for the holidays”.
