Have any of you started sending your scores out to colleges yet?

ecouter: I feel obligated to apply to Penn because it’s one of the two schools I was able to visit (Columbia was the second) and my parents are confused as to why I’ve had such an aboutface about the school - and I can’t tell them it’s because of the party scene/hookup culture lolol. I’ll probably drop Northwestern, Princeton (which my mom wants me to apply to, oh mothers), and Columbia, which would leave me with 11.

also, I’d go with option C. you don’t wanna kill yourself, but it’s still rigorous enough, imo.

I’m worried about Georgetown for aid, and hopefully my EFC is low enough that I can get good money from schools that meet all need.

tinnyt: omg can I have your life

repede: not yet. sort of related, I don’t know which schools I wanna send my SAT/subject test scores…

@Repede LOL no! I only have one ACT score to send them and I don’t even like my score. I know I’ll have to send it eventually, but I rather wait. I don’t know why.

@malaise Lol trust me, you don’t want this life.

Also I’m just over here axing schools off my list. I don’t know what came over me, but I like it. I just got rid of 3 schools. Penn, Georgetown, and UMich. The main reason I got rid of Georgetown is because they aren’t common app. I like Georgetown but not enough to bug my teachers to write me an additional recommendation. I hate bugging people, I feel so needy. UMich would probably give me crap aid if accepted. Penn I just wasn’t feeling anymore.

I would axe Northwestern, but their application is free for Chicago students, so why not?
I now have 4 reaches, 4 matches, and 2 safeties. Much better than my previous 7 reaches, 2 matches, 2 safeties.

@collegeluva one direction!! they’re so personable and nice and funny :D

I think I am sticking with my 16 schools for now. I might start chopping them down if I feel too stressed later in the year. I DEFINITELY will chop my list down if I get in to Yale SCEA (unlikely).

I’ve only got 4 that I’m really honestly excited about. There’s tons of places where I’m sure I’d have a great time, but there’s no way I’d start any other applications before I got rejected from my first choice in mid-December. I couldn’t even imagine having a list as long as some of you guys.

On a very vaguely related note, when do they send out AP Scholar notifications and NMSF notifications? Could I realistically expect to receive both or either before November 1 or December 1?

I don’t really understand the process of going from NMSF to NMF. I think there are forms you have to fill out and I’m afraid my school will screw them up or not tell me about them or something, and I need to be an NMF so I can get scholarships…

You’re notified in September for both.

“I now have 4 reaches, 4 matches, and 2 safeties. Much better than my previous 7 reaches, 2 matches, 2 safeties.”

8 reaches, 1 safety. Go big or go home.

@HH: I’m pretty sure you just need to send them your transcript and write an essay. You can probably find the information on their website.

I’m pretty straight, so no matter to me. ;)

Oui.

I feel you on the hook up culture. I’ve tried to explain it but they generally condemn that stuff in general so they think that I can just avoid it entirely. 11 is a solid number. What’d you think of Columbia, btw?

I kinda don’t see the point of applying places where I feel like I don’t want to go but my mom especially wants me to study in the US and is convinced that I don’t know what I want and am relying too much on the internet. Idek.

@Halycon, don’t they have the process written up on the site?

Wait so when do you get notified of NMF if you make it?
My list is 14-15 schools right now, but I’m going to chop a few off eventually. I’ve got a bunch that are in between safeties and matches, and in between matches and reaches, like 3-4 definite reaches and 1 definite safety.
@my88keys: I was thinking of applying to Yale SCEA too (along w/ EA to my state school) but I literally cannot imagine being accepted… I just wanna be Rory Gilmore ok? haha… according to this calculator I have a 16% chance, which is basically like rolling a die and getting a one.
On the other hand, I realized today that I really would be happy at my state school, so that’s good. But I’d hate to be doing this much just to end up there… Ahh idk

Also, I visited Columbia too (no tour because it was a weekend) and I was thinking of applying there but chopped them off today when I saw their supplement… really lame but I feel like I will be rejected, considering I can’t answer those questions very well and I also saw that they only have like a 6% acceptance rate for women (yeah, you guys have it easier at like every school pretty much), which discourages me. Probs applying to Barnard though… I loved NYC even though I’ve only been there a couple times, I’d love to go to college there… the only problem is the expensiveness of everything.

ECOUTER’S A GIRL D:

I refuse to go to any college that doesn’t have a hook up scene.

How’d you figure you have a 16% chance at Yale?

This website… probably not reliable but yeah… [What are my chances?](http://www.satscores.us/mychances/chance_me.asp)

how are y’all applying to 15+ schools? My list is tiny right now- just two schools, but with nine other options, provided my ED with Northwestern doesn’t work out (fingers crossed it does!). I don’t know if I want to go ahead and start my essays for the other schools before I find out if I got in…I did the info for all my schools already, and I won’t find out about ED until Dec. 15th, with most other apps due in early January.

wait, ecouter11 you’re a girl?! I’m shocked! I have 13/14 right now, but I might add one or two more. Otherwise, I’m sorta set.

^^ I can’t afford to apply to 15+ schools, I’m paying for the college apps myself so… even 7+ schools are out of the question lol.

I think you should start the essays just in case so that you won’t have to stress about it later.

Smartest course of action would be to finish all of your apps, but don’t hit submit until you find out.

I’ve actually had some fees waivered because apparently I’m an underrepresented minority. Like at Swarthmore.

The only problem is that I was okay with my college list of 10 before but then there’s another 10 I’m unsure about because they’re interesting, and some don’t need me to pay for application. On the other hand, they’re mainly reaches.

Still not sure about Brown or MIT. They’d probably be less willing to extend very good (i.e. not much loans) to me since I’m not a good student.

Being a bad student (even though you’re probably not one anyway) wouldn’t decrease your FA, just your chances of being accepted, right? Idk
Also, idk if I can get fees waived… I got the SAT fees waived but yeah… I think I could get like 4 waived?

:-O I thought you guys knew! It says on my profile. But yes, I have XX chromosomes.

Is my writing style just masculine or something? :P

That’s my plan too - I fully expect to get deferred SCEA if I apply, so I’m going to finish all my apps but not submit until I get the results.*

*Maybe after I cry pointless tears into a bowl of ice-cream.

Loveartforever,

I know some places they subtly stack merit/FA depending how much they want you to come. HYPSM wants everyone to come so they’re typically pretty good. For other schools, I think its more murky.
