High School Class of 2014

I wish I was the only guy in my classes. That would make me so happy.

@collegeluva101: I got emails about application fees being waived from Swarthmore, Smith, and Oberlin. Also, on a different note, Case Western doesn’t have an application fee in general. Carleton doesn’t either. But anyways. I have no idea what made me diverse. It’s probably because I’m Asian but not Chinese. Only thing I can think of.

They should, though. Then there wouldn’t be as many cheapskates with better stats than me applying there for no reason and potentially keeping me from getting in.
I have an interview there today, though. I’ll probably keep myself from getting in.

Haha, well I think they want to get their admissions rates down to Ivy-level or something. I’ve gotten so many emails from them (and so have all my friends, who think it’s a military school - lol!).

About the interview: really? I think I’m pretty awkward because when someone introduces themselves, I have to think about what my name is and what age I am. Then when they say “nice to meet you” I have no idea what to say.

Good luck Halycon! I’m sure you’ll do well.

I’m meeting a state senator tomorrow. I have no clue what I’m going to say.

Good luck to both of you guys! Ahh I don’t want to do interviews, I feel like they won’t really help me at all since I’m kind of an awkward person…
And I thought Smith was free to apply to? Idk
I’ve gotten a bunch of emails from Case Western too. Not applying there though!

In terms of land area Texas is over twice the size of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire combined. The things you search up when you’re bored…

Haha nice.
Argh I’m spending so much time researching schools and basically second-guessing my entire college list. This is so hard, why don’t I know what I wanna do with my life?? Should I apply to the Brown-RISD dual degree program?

At my school, 8 out of our top 10 are girls. The only people (4) listed on the sheet to be considered for NMS are girls. But in classes, it’s pretty evenly mixed.

@LoveArtForever, Do it! Even if you think your chanced are slim, do it anyway. Lol, I’m applying to Brown PLME with a <0% of getting in, but I’m yolo’ing it!

My AP Bio class was 100% girls.
My APUSH class was also 100% girls.
Hey, wait a minute… ALL of my classes were 100% girls.
Somehow, that seems to happen when you go to an all-girls school.
Actually, the AP Econ EXAM had one guy in it, because my school’s econ class needed it rescheduled to the makeup date and all other schools in the area did the regular date. So one boy, who had the flu during AP Econ, shows up on our doorstep to take the AP, and you can tell that he did NOT expect a girls school (which is weird, cuz it’s not like the words “for girls” aren’t in the school name or anything… eyeroll).

My classes are usually a good mix. That seems to happen a lot at a coed school.

Things I did wrong at my Case interview:

Said “and stuff” and “like” about fifty times. (I wish they’d do interviews over email or something so you could write what you wanted to say instead of having to go talk…I always sound incoherent when I speak, especially when I’m nervous. You can’t backspace.)

Talked about my shyness. Do you know how awkward it is to have a conversation about how awkward you are when you have conversations?

I was too self-deprecating. I’m bad at science, I’m going to fail all my senior-year classes, I’m only an alternate on the scholastic bowl team, and the place where I work hired me just to humor me.

Alluded to the time I got pulled over for drunk driving when I wasn’t drunk.

Failed to think of any questions when asked. All I ever have are obscure logistical questions…I don’t need to hear another recitation of the catalog.

I hope it doesn’t affect anything. I suppose it didn’t go as badly as it could have gone.

PLME question. Where do you apply for it? Usually, there are two essay prompts for it, but I see none in the Common App.

haha halcyonheather, I’m sorry! You sound like me, I’d rather do an email interview too… but I guess that’s kinda what essays are for… Maybe like an internet chat interview? haha

And collegeluva, idk, maybe I will! I’m def applying to Brown, and the RISD app isn’t due till february, so I’ll keep thinking about it… even though there’s like a 4% acceptance rate or something crazy like that haha. I’d be super happy just to get into Brown! But good luck w/ PLME!

Argh I’m looking at the Brown 2017 results thread and it’s depressing me… I need to stop, haha

Go check out the Caltech results threads.
“4.0 ranked 1/9000 @ top boarding school in the country 2390 (790 W) 800 Math 2, Chem, Phys, Bio, WH
-Intel Finalist
-USAMO, USABO Qualifier
-Developed alternative cancer treatment when I was 10 and bored
I’m fully convinced my 2390 is what led to my rejection from Caltech… -sigh- MIT, here I come.”

Anyway, “How to Read Literature Like a Professor” is extremely boring… From now on I’m just reading the first page of each chapter, then reviewing the book on Sparknotes or whatever. This method will probably yield the same, or even better, results as spending all day tomorrow laboring through the rest of the book.

I just directed someone from reddit to CC, since he had no idea how to college application process was like. Probably a mistake? Maybe.

ybrown234! We’re twins! I have to read that too! AP Lit for the win!

Haha… Migraine. I’m getting way better at controlling my time on CC. I used to be pretty bad. But we’ve all had those times, right?
