That’s how I feel about the reach schools on my list, haha

Northwestern and UChicago are the only reach schools I’m not 100% sure I’ll get rejected. That’s only because they love my school and being a Chicago resident helps.

I’m basically buying a lottery ticket for most of the schools on my list and hoping that I can cash in on one.

@Repede, If I apply to 8 reaches, the chances of me getting into one are higher, right??? Lol.

I’m only 99% sure I’ll get rejected from MIT, 99.9% I’ll get rejected from Dartmouth and 50-60% sure for all my other reaches.

@collegeluva If all 8 of those reaches are Ivy League schools then no your chances don’t increase. lol

Haha people always say that if you apply to all the Ivies, you’ll get into at least one. I’m pretty sure your chances don’t increase. We actually talked about this in AP Stat last year, but I forgot what we talked about.

Your chances wouldn’t increase at any single Ivy, but I imagine you have a higher chance of getting into at least one if you apply to more than one. But I don’t think it’s a significantly higher chance, because they all consider essentially the same things.

Either way, I’d be happy to get into any of the schools on my list.

yeah, I think when we did significance testing, we found that it was not statistically significant.

LOL Brown and Tulane both emailed me.

Okay: advice time…
I asked my former teacher for a rec through fb. She said yes - we were actually chatting beforehand and she asked about my college plans. I had some struggles in her class - I got really good grades, but I missed her classes but she worked with me on it (got a 97 and half of the grade is a provincial standardized test) and she knows personal stuff about me but idk…should I use her? She also asked me to send her my essay (she’s an English teacher). She doesn’t teach at my school anymore though.

Probably will get rejected from all the schools on my US list, since they’re all reaches. I’m probs going to apply to Yale SCEA now but I’m scared of the sexual assault problem and the number of gay guys (I’d like to date, heh). Harvard’s in a cooler city for sure and the guy I work for wrote a rec for a kid who is in the Harvard c/o 2014 and he had less stuff than me (but in an IB program) so I don’t know. Any thoughts?

I’m a match for selective programs and safety for acceptance in every school in Canada. basically. I could just stay at home but when I say that to my mom, she gets mad and reminds me I wrote the SAT twice and bought prep books and I shouldn’t sell myself short and watch my friends post acceptances on FB without even applying.

I think it’s like if you apply to one college, you have one chance of getting into a college, but if you apply to 5 colleges, you have 5 chances of getting in even if everything is statistically separate.

^what? huh?

Anyways, I’ve been reduced to having to email a teacher to ask for a rec. What should I say? I’ve asked other teachers for recs before (for like summer programs) by just being really awkward and flat-out asking, but not on email. Like, what should I even put as the subject line to make it not totally obvious that it’s a request for recs?

So today I got an email from Colorado College. The first line of the email was this exactly:
“Dear {first_name},”

Really personal, right?

Lol! Probably the computer was supposed to fill in names but didn’t.

^LOL wow I’m sure you’re filling out their app right now :p

I think I’m gonna apply to Boston College EA and UVM EA instead of Yale SCEA, because I pretty much know I have no chance there.
Also, I’ve only been in AP Calc BC for like 2 days and it’s already kicking my butt. Is that bad, does anyone have tips on how to get through it??

So I just got my Kaplan Diagnostic Test back and my score DROPPED from what the test I took in May from a 2080 to a 2020. Clearly my summer studying did not do anything AT ALL. So frustrating…

Haha that’s hilarious about Colorado College. I actually wanted to apply there because it’s a nice school with good financial aid and science programs, but the block plan doesn’t sit well with me.

collegeluva101, did you get the 2080 on a Kaplan test or on the real thing? Kaplan is known to produce not-so-accurate tests compared to PR and even Barron’s.

^ I got a 2080 on the real thing. I just registered for a Kaplan class and I took a diagnostic test, which I hoped would be at least a little better since I studied over the summer a bit. It wasn’t…
