High School Class of 2014

Stupid National Merit people…

I got my AP Scholar with Distinction award in the mail today. It was dated August 10.

Just had my interview with my MIT EC. It was at his bioscience firm and was pretty chill. I got there really early so he let me check out this cool machine that measured distribution of T cells and cancer cells in lab rat blood samples in relation to his firm’s drug doses. Oh, and the interview was pretty engaging too.

Took an ACT practice test for the first time in a longgg time. Got a 29. I would like a 32+ for the September test. Possible or…? I’m kind of accepting the fact that I might have to take the ACT again in October which will be my 3rd (and final) time. In the meantime time to read Barrons 36 and practice. I’m taking another test Sunday. Hopefully progress is made.

California’s was 220… Wasn’t Massachusetts’ 221? (I’ve heard that in previous years, it’s been up to like 224 :O)

Made NMSF with a 224 in Colorado! Not particularly surprised, as last year’s cutoff was 212, but good to get the letter from my counselor today nonetheless. What surprised me is that I’m apparently the only one in my class of 265 to make it!

Has anyone finished their common app essays?

I’m from the Midwest so my reach and match schools don’t require them. However, one of the schools I’m thinking of applying to is on the East coast. Needless to say I’m rather clueless on the whole common app thing.

Apparently my school got the letter that says I made NMSF. I got a 227 in Ohio.

I finished my Common App essay during spring break.
But I edited a lot of little things this summer.

I still have several supplements to write, though.
The Common App kind of sucks…the applications for schools that don’t use it are a lot easier.

What schools are you guys applying to? I think I’ve finalized my list :D

MIT EA (please oh please jesus)
Olin (this place is awesome. anyone else thinking of it?)
Cornell (Debated ED but I love MIT too much)
Carnegie Mellon
RPI
U Rochester
state school

Congratulations!

I feel like I won’t get into U of Rochester now.

Actually feeling like I won’t get in anywhere.

I’m not as strong an applicant as you guys, but I’m applying to

University of Maryland CP
University of Rochester
Lehigh University
Northeastern University
Stevens Institute of Technology
Rutgers (safety)

I’m applying to
UVM ea
BC ea
Tufts
Middlebury
Amherst
Brown
Maybe: Yale, Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Barnard, Skidmore, Vassar, RISD

Harvard (SCEA)
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
Columbia
Duke
Vanderbilt
UPenn

Wow, you must be a really strong applicant, haha

No safety schools, guys. (That’s right, I’m a rebel)

@halcyon I too have to do supplementary apps…sigh

@Loveartforever I’m banking on my perfect SAT score to get accepted somewhere, lol. But I would seriously be happy with any of the schools on this list.

oh yeah, I guess the 2400 explains your list then, haha… congrats!

Can you guys help me w/ my test situation? I’m trying to decide what subject tests to sign up for, or if I should sign up for the act. I want to maximize the time I have left for testing, and the sign up deadline for subject tests is tomorrow. So far I’ve taken the sat once, act once, and 3 subject tests. I have a 2300, 34 (8 essay), and a 760 math 2 (I think I could do better), 700 french (it’d take a lot of extra studying to do better), and 650 us history (not sending or retaking). Should I retake math and french, or the act… or take literature or something? Like all of my schools accept act in place of subject tests.

And arghh I don’t wanna do supplements

Definite (no more essays to write):

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign EA (except they don’t call it EA)
Case Western Reserve University EA
University of Miami EA
Northeastern University EA
University of Minnesota Twin Cities
University of Alabama

Indefinite (dependent on how much I procrastinate):

University of Chicago EA
University of Michigan EA
Ohio State University EA

Brandeis
Carnegie Mellon
Case Western
UChicago
Drexel
UMD Priority
MIT EA
NYU
Northwestern
Tufts
Vanderbilt
WashU
UDel
-Between a few, but one is being added more

My Schools, Finalized:

Harvard (SCEA)
Yale
Brown (PLME)
Stanford
Princeton
UChicago
Johns Hopkins
WashU (University Scholars)
George Washington University (Honors Program)
Boston College
Northeastern
UMass Amherst

There it is. My final college list. This feels surreal.

My list is something like:
Brown
Carleton
Rice
MIT
Case Western
Boston University
Smith
UPitt
University of Rochester
UCSD, Berkeley, and Santa Cruz (all use the same app)

I won’t add more reaches, unless something really good happens, like I get finalist in Siemens or something… Intel news may be a little late. (I doubt I’ll get anything this year though)
