High School Class of 2015

I’m not looking forward to Chem and Euro; they’re historically two of the hardest APs at my school.

Hi HobbitTon, have you done anything on AP chem during the summer?

Yeah, a bunch of summer assignments. Why?

I start the day after labor day :)

^When’s that?

Ten more days left until school starts for me!!! Good luck to all sophomores!!!

Gah. I need to start studying for AP Environmental’s Entrance Exam.

looks at guide to using significant figures

I’m so confused right now…

School is almost here for me…

Eleven more days for me, and I still have a bunch of summer HW that I procrastinated on :(

9 days…9 days…so much left to do.
I reaaally don’t want to read. :(

I need to read… and haul some serious booty on my online Latin class because I have two weeks left to finish it. I really need to study for my permit test, too.

^ Me too!!! About the permit test, that is. I’m taking it in September. Plus I have to take an online driving class beforehand. The thing is, I don’t understand what to do after I get my permit, so I’m afraid I’ll be stuck there :(. Are you supposed to sign up for classes with a professional driver and have them sign your permit in order to activate it? And then drive for 6 hours with them over the course of 6 months???

Yeah, I’m excited to finally get mine! I just turned fifteen on Wednesday. I can’t really help you with that, hahaha. In Tennessee, we don’t have to do any classes or anything, just pass a multiple choice test. After that, we’re just allowed to drive with a parent in the passenger seat until we get our license

Yeah, I guess California makes things more complicated :(. Plus the DMV site is kind of unclear about the requirements, IMO.

In north carolina its really a pain to get your license if you’re not wealthy. To get your license you HAVE to have insurance, and even with a car that was made in 2002, my mom adding me to her insurance cost 300+ dollars extra a month! :frowning: which really sucks for me since I dont want to work this school year due to all the hard courses Im taking (i want to focus on my schoolwork) and probably wont really be able to help out. WHICH MEANS NO DRIVING FOR ME. But at least I live in walking distance to the school (my house backs up to the road where my school is)

I’m scared by the idea of 15 year olds allowed to drive, seriously?

in NC at fifteen you can only drive with a parent/someone whose had a license for 5 years. After six months (if you didnt get any tickets whatsoever) you can get your license and drive by your self between 5 and 9 and only have 1 other person in the car. after another six months (with not tickets) you can drive however you want with who ever you want.

Plus, some people really suck at driving, but driving is so easy to me, I’ve been driving since 13 (in the country) and have driven effortlessly in some pretty rough conditions (down a mountain covered in black ice at night when my family was coming back from Tennessee). But I know people who seriously should not be driving. I think the license test should be a lot more indepth (i basically had to drive a mile do some turns, turn around and that was it).

@UKgirl23 Yeah, some of the people I know that are my age should definitely not be driving. How does the license system work in the UK?

Once you’re 17 you can apply for a learners license, with which you can drive with someone else in the car who has a license. You can apply for a test whenever, as long as you’ve passed the theory test, which isn’t too hard but isn’t basic either. The test involves having to drive somewhere, do roundabouts, dual carriageways etc. It is usually quite complicated, and a few minor errors or one major error fails you eg failing to look both ways at a junction, almost running a pedestrian over, not realising you’re on a one way road and not checking your mirror properly. My brother did each of these in consecutive tests, so he’s nearly 18 and hasn’t passed yet.
It’s pretty comprehensive, and in my opinion a good way to do it. There’s talk of raising the learning age to 18, which seems unnecessary though.
