Just turned in my humor writing for the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards! This is my first year entering, but I’m shooting for a gold key!

Good luck to all of you waiting for results :)

Could someone help me out with a blog post? I just need to know some stereotypes about the UK. I get the general feeling towards us, but I want to see if there’s anything else I can include. Thanks :D

Uh a lot of people think of crooked teeth, less hygiene, tea, boarding school… etc. Crooked teeth I get since most everybody I go to school with (80%) has or has had braces… and I think that whole department isn’t as popular in the UK… Also with the hygiene thing–a lot of people just have that connotation with Europeans in general…

I always find the crooked teeth thing weird as we can get barces free on the NHS as long as our teeth are bad enough. Less people get them privately, but in my area around the same number will get them, but we are a very middle class area.
I like tea and fish and chips and my accent and I’m off to boarding school next year :)

Thanks guys, if anyone has anymore that would be great :)

@Ariana I’ve never heard of that show, what do you mean?

I haven’t gotten my PSAT scores back either, but I’m not really looking forward to it anyway. :b

Haven’t been on in a couple days. Our winter formal is Saturday and the USB Sophomores plan it so ive been busy. It’s gonna be amazing.

UKgirl, are there tests like SAT, PSAT in UK?

I’ve heard that studying for tests is not “cool” until one goes to college. on CC though, it seems to be pretty cool. That’s why I like CC. People here seem to be more grown up. :D

Me this week in 3 words: stressed, ready (for Christmas break), and tired.

Oh well, Friday is the last day, then no school for 2 and a half weeks.

CCers are just cool people!

CE527M, you have two weeks of break? lucky! Are you going to a private school?

We have only 8.5 days of winter break, including Xmas and New year.

@nomatterwhat…no public, we just got lucky because of the way the schedule for the year figured out…we were already getting out later this year for summer break (IDK why) so we had extra days, so it went towards Christmas Break.

@UKGirl I think we just see English people as being really “proper” probably because of your accents and it just seems like you have kind of a glamorous life with your tea and boarding schools and everyone living in palaces and such (I know everyone doesn’t really live in a palace haha).

Next year in math or science we should all talk like Einstein for the first day of school.

@UKgirl…well Brits are presumed to be some what power-hungry (ahem Revolutionary War) Naw, just kidding, this Yank is the pot calling the kettle black, the US is pretty power hungry ourselves.

How did Einstein talk? :p

@shmluza we don’t take specific college entrance exams except for medicine and veterinary sciences, but we have to take the SAT for US colleges still. I don’t think you can take the PSAT here :)

When I talk to people about my classes, if they aren’t the over achievers like me they normally ask why I would want to take those classes, and why are you taking this and that AP… Some of those people are friends of mine and expect to go to top colleges… It’s hard to explain that just because you have straight a’s doesn’t mean you’ll get into duke or Davidson or Oxford… I would agree that kids who are really involved in ECs who have not only good grades but are challenging themselves are much more mature than those who don’t understand the point of trying hard and getting straight a’s…
