High School Class of 2015

As my AP Physics teacher said if you asked him how to do a Q, “Just draw up a FBD and plug 'em Jammie’s in.” That was helpful :-w

I always laughed because he would say FBD like fa-bud. And the word jammy is just catchy. When in doubt, do as the wise man said :P

Sorry to jack the 2015 thread, but @emenya‌, my school uses that textbook! Physics isn’t going great for me either, but I actually think Giancoli is pretty well-organized. I’m just dumb.

This is the Giancolli textbook @glasshours‌

Me: “Okay let’s read section 10.8 about fluids. It might help.”
Book: “Here you go. Fluids…Blah Blah…Fluids. Feel good?”
Me: “That actually wasn’t that bad. Let me try the practice problems at the back of the chapter.”
Book: “Here are random problems that have NOTHING in common with what we went over.”

This is literally what happens.

@emenya those practice Q’s are put in the book specifically for that purpose. Don’t do them if they frusturate you. When in doubt, watch Ms. Twu :P

@emenya‌ - LOL yeah, some of the problems are difficult :frowning: But woah, you guys are up to fluids already?

I used giancoli last year and it was pretty terrible. I learned more physics from yahoo answers than from that book

These college essays are so hard to write :(

You guys doing AP physics 1/2 or C?

@glasshours My school had the excellent idea of making us start with fluids

@Quadmaster Physics 2, there’s no Physics C at my school

Amen @nicobella‌ . It’s almost the 15th and I still haven’t finished my final UT essay :frowning:

@emenya‌

Good luck finishing! I’ve actually only gotten one supplement essay done. :frowning: The Common App is really stumping me aha I think I have quite a bit of brainstorming to do…

@QuadMaster‌ physics C

@emenya yea my friend showed me stuff about fluid dynamics and I was absolutely dumbfounded. The material seems rough

Man, life sucks.

You just want to apply everywhere, hoping that you’ll get in somewhere, but then, you realize that you can’t write so many essays. Whyyyyyy?

Sorry for being whiny. :-S

I didn’t have to write any essays. :slight_smile: Sucks that I started drafting my common app essay and wrote another one before realizing I didn’t need to (changed my mind about which colleges to apply to).

Ive got 6 more to write. I’ve been putting off my Cornell essay because I honestly have NO IDEA what to write about. I have to think of some engineering idea I have…superpowers or memory retracing would be cool but not sure if thats what they are looking for.

Scholarship essays are the worst. cough* Gates. I mean 8 in total for one scholarship? But then it is an AMAZING opportunity so they need to truly understand the applicants.

Teachers should just say “I know you all have essays to write so I won’t give you homework today”. Someday’s when it’s eleven, there is no way an essay is going to be written. Today however was the 2nd to last day of the six weeks (does anyone else have this schedule) so I was able to get half of the UT essay done.

@QuadMaster C Mechanics (my school doesn’t offer E&M, although I might self-study that, depending on how badly senioritis hits)

I have Barron’s, but ain’t nobody got time for that first semester. I have to record a supplement for my EA school in less than 3 weeks, and I’m just not down. SO not ready…

@emenya we used to have 6 weeks but this year we switched to quarters.

I need to write five essays, three of which are for the same school. Fun times…

I’m only applying to 2 schools early and only one of them has a supplement (thank goodness) but then I have 2 schools that have deadlines on December 1st (5 essays!!) and then I have to write 7 essays for the Jan.1st deadline…this is going to be a fun year. (Actually I removed 3 schools from my list so before, I would have had to write 13 essays over winter break lol.)
