High school class of 2016

Basketball’s probably the only game I can follow and not get bored of quickly.
I really like watching March Madness… maybe due to the fact that my teachers make us fill out brackets and we have class competitions.

@catchinginfinity. We basically have labs and tests. thats it. On Labs, I get around B’s and A’s. It is just tests that kill me, like I said. And, my teacher is first time AP teacher too

My dad watches basketball so I eventually caught on. And plus, the Jeremy Lin phase kind of sucked me in…yay for being Asian haha. I don’t understand college basketball though. -_-

I agree that excelling in academics and being interested in sports don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Well my team Wichita State is #6 and undefeated! What more can I ask for?

We have another 2 hour delay tomorrow! So happy. I’m not sure why though, it’s not snowing and it’s only around 18 degrees… I guess it’s a change from the 70 degrees on Monday, though. Hm.

@Jawmess: Yay, congrats on that PSAT! At least now you know that you’re strongest in CR. =)

@np: I really think you need to stop fretting about dropping AP Bio. Seriously. I think a F will look worse than dropping. Just explain it, like catchinginfinity mentioned. Just do it, get it done with, and strive to be better next time. We all screw up sometimes, are placed in unfortunate circumstances, or a combination of the above. Do it, and move on.

@loltired: The weather is REALLY messed up wherever you live. =P Sadly, school is still totally on tomorrow, even though it was pretty cold for where I live today (in the 10s and 20s). It’ll be warmer by the end of the week, though, in the 60s.

I’ve been getting so tired so quickly in the night lately, and it sucks! I’ve barely done any homework and it’s so late already. I need to write debate speeches, so I’m giving up on the homework and just doing that. =P I’ll stay up tomorrow night to do the homework, I guess. Thank goodness for block scheduling.

@Almondjoy
Thanks! But my score makes me look like I’m the type of person who’d rather read than write.

@Jawmess: The way you say that makes me think that you prefer writing over reading? And keep in mind, the real SAT has an essay, so your strength in writing will definitely show there as opposed to the PSAT, which has no essay. =)

Hey @jawmess, our PSAT scores are really close to each other. But I got 56 math 56 cr and 53 writing. So do you think I should just improve on all of them? @almondjoy7 too

Sorry, I just really dislike football because my school is OBSESSED with it. Football> academics here.

As for being interested in sports, I like watching hockey occasionally, and I like swimming. Pretty much it lol

I may be leaving my state to go to NYC and finish up junior/ senior year of high school there. Currently debating it. If I go to NYC, I get out of hillbilly hell and get to do awesome stuff every weekend. However, there’s also a LOT more competition, and programs with geographical affirmative action would be much easier to get into from my current state.

Any thoughts, guys?

It’s a miracle, my school lost all its water. Obviously I feel bad for anyone who lost water near my school, but I really needed today to study for my finals. :P

@Almondjoy
I meant that as in that’s how people from my school would look at my score

@Slytherclaw12
I’m planning on improving all of them because I was kind of relying on CR and I’m a bad timed test taker.

@Team - YOU MIGHT COME TO NY?! There’s a LOT of competition here, especially if you’re looking into specialized high schools, but yeah, there’s also so much more to do and programs to take part in. Didn’t you say you were applying to your state’s math/sci academy?

I took a math quiz yesterday and I left the classroom thinking “it wasnt that bad” but I saw my grade in the gradebook thing, and i got a 90. i just dont know what went wrong. I doube checked my answers and everything. Plus, my test/ quiz average was a 97 and i think my 90 dropped down my grade a lot, but not enough to go from a 98.2 to a 97.0. I’m so upset like i lost my A+. :frowning: Am I just overreacting or would you feel the same?

There really is no difference between a 90.00 (depending on your grading scale) and a 100 tbh.

There is a difference, because otherwise there is no way my grade can drop by 1.2… And today I had a ridiculously hard English test (and so little time to finish it) and my English grade is gonna drop too. All my grades are dropping and Im not even slacking off :(

So to get an A+ at your school you need a 97 or above? If that’s the case then it doesn’t matter if you have 110% or a 97.01%, it’ll still show up as an A+ and most colleges aren’t going to care even if they do put percentages on your transcript.

I see your point, but a 97 at my school is still an A. Technically, a 98 or above is an A+ but some teachers say 97.5 or above counts as an A+ too (cuz they round up). Half of my grades are on the borderline and I’ll be so upset if I get the lower grade with a 0.1 difference.

Do you want the A+ for the final grade or because you want to have some cushion for hard tests?

@slytherclaw: I mean, I definitely think that working on all the sections would be pretty beneficial for you. Since we’re sophomores, we have time, so I would definitely start studying at least a little bit everyday to improve those scores.

@Team: You’ve got to take a look at what you want to do in the future. Would you benefit from going to a bigger NYC school? What types of opportunities are you specifically looking for? Would you not be able to find those opportunities in “hillbilly hell”? (If that’s a reference to Cars, I have alll the respect for you). But tbh, if you feel you can handle the academic stress (which I think you can, personally) and the pressures of moving to a new school socially, go for it. I only wish I could go to NYC.

@imhkim: I honestly think you’re overreacting a bit. Sure, losing an A+ can be a little disappointing, but I don’t think it’s worth getting upset about. On a totally random note, I had a 99.46 average in Honors Pre-Calc for the first semester, and i was a tad bit annoyed that my teacher wouldn’t raise the grade .04 points so it could round up to a 100. =P But I mean, I wasn’t upset. You should be proud of yourself for having such a high A in the first place!!

//

Ugh, I’ve been meaning to start studying for the SAT a little bit every other day, but I’m already SO bombarded with homework, it’s absolute craziness. I’ve been in a whirlwind of researching and writing speeches for my big debate tournament this weekend (I’m starting to get pretty nervous :/), and I leave so soon. Scary stuff, but hopefully it’ll be fun too.

How is everybody else doing with school? Did you people in the NE/MW get any better weather?
