I don’t like how SAT’s should be something you can prepare for, it’s not really learning like you would study for AP or IB and taking a test on that, it doesn’t seem like college readiness.

Nice job circumventing the censorship system. Have to say I don’t completely get the second one though- is this some sort of vulgar usage of the word “tricks” or something? Or a reference to something? I apologize for my cluelessness.

@Cloudchamber
The “heuristics ain’t shiznit but hoes and tricks” one?

@TeamRocketGrunt Yeah, that’s the one.

@Cloudchamber

There’s a rap “song” by Dr. Dre or whatever that nonsense is in which one of the lyrics is “[female dogs] ain’t shiznit but hoes and tricks.” Basically, he uses the term for female dogs as it’s used colloquially to denote women, and he says that they’re nothing but promiscuous tricksters who want to take his money. He is saying that women are worthless because they’re “hoes and tricks.” A heuristic is kind of like a trial/error process, and in computer science (and oftentimes in math), trial/error processes are known as “brute force” methods. “Heuristics ain’t shiznit but hoes and tricks” is kind of like saying “brute force methods are stupid and amateurish.” You can, for example, attempt to brute force your way into someone’s account by trying a variety of different password combinations and hoping that one works, but that’s an inelegant way to go about it.

@anonemuss lol yeah I got banned

@Cloudchamber yo did you just use the word ‘masturbatorily’?

This thread has gotten really strange…

Anyway, what summer programs are you guys applying to?

@Apollo11 Basically everything NOT STEM related, mostly business programs. Although, if anyone can suggest a good computer programming-type summer course, I’d love to hear it.

I haven’t posted on this thread for ages…why is everyone arguing over grammar?

@TeamRocketGrunt, ah thank you for the thorough explanation While familiar with heuristics (and their crudeness), I must admit I am less conversant with the stylings and vernacular of Dr. Dre.

@afroninja26 Yeah, in context it simply means “self indulgently” or “egotistically.” You can probably see why it can be used in this somewhat figurative way…

@Apollo11 For next summer? Mostly STEM programs (RSI, Simons, Governor’s School, etc) and TASP. Although I might end up just doing research with a local professor.

Anyone else starting to compile their college lists?

And why does everyone have to use advanced vocabulary -___-

@woandering there are summer business programs? where??

@Cloudchamber lol that’s not what I thought you meant by it you’ve gotta chill with your vocab xD

@Cloudchamber Got a folder on my computer with more folders to categorize my reach, match, safety, and international schools. I’m collecting useful data for the commonapp essays and stuff, so I won’t have to do extra research. So, yes, I have a list of schools.

@ErenYeager Yeah, the most famous is probably Wharton’s Leadership in the Business World. It’s one of the few paid summer programs that are actually worth something. If you’re more into the economics and politics of the business world, Yale’s Young Global Scholars is also pretty cool. Not really my thing, but very competitive.

@ErenYeager lol I apologize if my lexicon seems overly starched and formal, but unfortunately I have little alternative: I am basically illiterate when it comes to “slang” and internet argot. I’ll give “chilling” a fair try though :)

@Woandering That sounds like a great organization tactic. I’ll have to get on that (@ErenYeager, better?). If you don’t mind me asking, what are some of your safeties? I’ve had no trouble coming up with reaches and matches- must be my youthful idealism- but have yet to discover some solid safeties.

@Cloudchamber Same here! I’ve actually replaced all my safeties a few times, based on my changing priorities for a safety. Currently, I’m looking at okay schools that give great merit aid. My favorite safety is University of Alabama, and besides the disappointment it would bring my family, I am actually excited to attend there.

What I did is look through someone’s merit aid list (sorry forgot where) and found the schools that are pretty good at teaching the classes I want to learn (computing and business-related). I also tried to get the rolling admissions ones so I would be able to get them over with early.

UA is probably my only “solid” safety. I’m fairly sure I’ll change the others soon. Good luck to you!

On another subject, since I just got back from vacation, I just checked my AP scores, and 5s for AP Macro- and Micro-!! First 5s yay

@Woandering, thanks so much for the info! I will have to check out UA. As for the merit aid list, I’ll do some digging through CC and see if I can find it. Good luck to you as well solidifying your list of safeties

And congrats on the scores! I can relate- I also recently got back mine, 5’s for AP Calc and AP lang. What AP’s are you guys taking next year? I’ve planning to do AP physics C, AP Lit, AP Stats, AP French, AP Psych (arguably my “easy A” for the year), and AP Latin. Should be fun

Is anyone applying to PRIMES or PRIMES-USA this year?

@2016bostonian I hope to apply to PRIMES-USA. Just found out I was eligible… for some reason I thought it was an exclusively Boston thing.

@Cloudchamber you can still apply to PRIMES-USA; it’s a nationwide program.

@2012bostonian I know, I just found out and edited my comment
