Can someone check out my recent thread?

@jdschooled5 Checked it out. Nice thread. 8/10.
@awakeningvenus I read somewhere that UChicago aggressively mails high school students, even if it knows the students have virtually no chance of getting in, simply to boost its admission pool. That way, it can accept approximately the same number of people as it would in previous years but have a lower acceptance rate. Lower selectivity results in a higher ranking in ranking systems that factor in selection rates.
Edit: I found a source.
2004 data on several colleges: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/education/2006-11-02-collegerates_x.htm?siteID=je6NUbpObpQ-YOWHLpuWY3mA79knA6e4AA
UChicago had a 40% acceptance rate in 2004.
Tbh I’ve already crossed UChicago off my list but I would like a shirt.
UChicago sends mails to a good amount of HS students, they sent me a lot of mail. This is for admission purposes so that the school can look more selective (it’s a private btw cough business cough).
@Slytherclaw12 - Same, I just want a free t-shirt
Should I settle for a lower level school so I can play golf?
The schools interested in me for golf are:
Nazareth College- Rochester NY
Stevenson University- Baltimore MD
Elmira College - Elmira NY
Niagara University - Niagara Falls NY
Univ. of Scranton -Scranton PA
Or should I go to a better school such as Penn State, Syracuse, or Temple
@Orioles21
If golf Is something you really love, go for it. However, think of the long run. Will you be a pro? Or is there a field you want. Which college is best for that field?
The larger schools will have at least intramural golf. Look into that.
Boiiii
@LikeThis I don’t live too close; I’m in Florida. I don’t know how many t-shirts they sent out, but I know they sent some out to their mailing list, and others to high school seniors that made a request. If you want a shirt, you can always just send a request to them next year to take advantage of college advertising.
@jumpingstar I’m Indian. Sub-continent of Asia.
@TeamRocketGrunt Haha, it’s definitely working. I think I’ve gotten two postcards, a booklet, and that t-shirt. It’s understandable that a student would get attached to and apply to the school that consistently sent interesting and complimenting mail. My sister applied last year and got wait-listed. What’s interesting about that is that UChicago was the only selective school that she really considered.
Just took my ACT. Pretty easy. Reading comp (usually my worst section) was a breeze and really straightforward. Essay was easy as well. Science was probably the “hardest”.
@Chrysanthemum14 Nice. My friend took it today as well and he seemed horrified. I did really bad when I took it a while back. To be fair, I didn’t look at the test structure at all before taking it. I got a 27 composite with writing. I’m an SAT girl.
I also took the ACT today. Math was very easy. English was easy also. Reading was fair but I felt like I missed more than I should… Science was horrible. Way harder than I imagined. Essay was a breeze. I actually finished everything on time for this test.
Anyone taking the June ACT? I think if I get a 34 I’ll stop but anything less and I’ll have to take the September test. Any tips for books? The only book I’m studying from is the real act.
@Gatortristan I am. Haven’t really started to study. I’ve been focused on APs and SAT IIs.
@jamanda Same but I’m devoting all my time to them after ap exams.
@Gatortristan I only used the Real ACT and PR’s 1296 Questions
Hey guys what do you do this summer? What do you think is better a research program like Michigan HSSRP or UF SSTP or something like Cosmos?
@Dinka7 I am doing (hopefully, if i get accepted) a paid research internship at UCLA for the summer. To be honest, choose the summer program that interests you the most and you will believe will help you out for stuff like college admissions.
I made the smart idea of taking the SAT in May…the weekend prior to AP week. So, I am now struggling to budget time for the two (confident with APUSH but not AP lang, worrying more about SATs).
