High school class of 2016

Yeah, I’ve decided not to go to prom, get senior photos taken, go on the senior trip, buy the class ring, etc. They overcharge for everything, and I’ve not the money after all these years of paying for APs and paying to get rejected apply to college.

Also, I definitely don’t want to spend a second more than I have to with my lovely high school classmates.

^then i would not do the leadership class. for leadership all that stuff is your job to do

Everyone, pray for me that I get secretary of science club in tomorrow’s election. The competition is fierce.

@NectarInASieve My three most noteworthy ECs are Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, and research. I’m chairman of our MAO competition branch (my school organizes our chapter into a general branch and a specially designed competition branch that participates in/prepares for competitions), and I’m in charge of coordinating our presence at competitions and whatnot (mostly just finding new ones to sign us up for). Students from my school participated in our first HiMCM this past year, for example. I’m trying to get a bunch of other ones started up for next year.

I’m class director of Key Club and organized various service projects in conjunction with the Pres and VP of the club. Currently trying to merge some aspects of Key Club and MAO to offer a comprehensive tutoring service for the local elementary schools.

I’ve been doing research for a while. I’ve worked on two projects under a grad and undergrad student, and I’m currently leading a project dealing with metallic nanoparticles.

I used to have a bunch more back in freshman/sophomore year, but I dropped many of them due to lack of interest

I was also captain of debate and VP of Mock Trial in my sophomore year, but we never really did much.

I just looked at the AP exam calendar. Lang and Stats are on the same day. I want to cry.

Calc BC and Chinese are on the same day, and since my school doesn’t offer AP Chinese, I have to travel in between. Why can’t everything just be simple.

Hello, I’m a new face here on this part of the forum c:
@ErenYeager: By the way, I love that Sasha profile pic!

I was just wondering if anyone is taking/has taken AP Chemistry. I’m super nervous about the AP test and I’m not sure where I’ll go with studying and preparing myself for it ;-;
And by the way (I apologize if this was already discussed earlier in the forum), how many colleges are you guys planning to apply to? Is there a maximum number? I would like to apply to a lot, but after getting denied to almost all of the summer programs I wanted to go to, I feel like I should narrow down my list of colleges.

My junior prom is tomorrow but I’m not going. It’s basically going to be a repeat of 8th grade formal meh. Senior prom is the important one anyways. I won’t be going to school tomorrow either…college visit.

@Chrysanthemum14 Where are you visiting?

I am going to junior prom but may not go to senior prom because of the whole experience thus far.

The Washington Post has ranked the most challenging high schools in the country yet again. My school is 102nd in NY and 1662nd in the country (I think). I would love to know if everyone else’s school made the list. It wouldn’t let me copy the link but just search “Washington Post most challenging high schools 2015”.
Keep in mind, even if you’re one of the last on the list, to even make the list is not easy. Only the top 6% of high schools in the country made it.

^ I don’t live in the US, so my school’s not ranked. Out of curiosity, though, how hard is hard? Like, how many people do you have to ‘compete’ against/ how much time/day do you spend doing homework/ what do you have to do to get a leadership position etc?

I’m going to prom if I can convince my friends… Our seniors actually organized prom (it’s not school affiliated) and apparently it’s in a revolving restaurant this year?

Revolving restaurant + the majority of upperclassmen at my school = Not good. Not good at all.

Weird, I’ve never even heard of most of the top-ranked schools on the list. I expected TJ, Paly, etc. Seem mostly like small magnet schools- which makes sense, it’s easier to get your numbers that high with a small number of students.

My school is surprisingly high on the list…I didn’t even expect my school to make the list.

My school is ranked 100 in FL and 641 in the country. We usually never send kids to ivies but this year we’re sending around 4-5 and 3-4 are going to top 20 schools. fingers crossed for december

@LikeThis I would honestly stay with being valedictorian. Colleges like to boast their class ranking of students like “32% of the Class of 2020 are valedictorians”. Many top schools publish statistics like that so it would give you a huge boost in admissions.

Everyone has some interesting ECs! I asked because I have way too many to handle and I’m trying to figure out how to manage my schedule/sadly drop some activities that I really care about :frowning:

My schools so far
Princeton University (EA)
UPenn
Columbia
Barnard
Tufts University
Boston College
State University

On a brighter note, i broke a school track record that has been there for 10 years

My school is ranked in the 1-100 range in CA! I won’t give out the name because I don’t want to publicly post where I go to school but you can PM me if you want to know

Are you guys checking with U.S. News? My school is #54 in Florida and #953 National.

Beta Club elections for next year are coming up at my school. I’m the current president. Hope I can win again.
