High school class of 2016

Heading to a Harvey Mudd interview! Wish me luck y’all!

Good luck @basedchem !!!

35 minute interview. Short and sweet? Or too short?

@basedchem I don’t think the length really matters as long as it was a good conversation  How did it go?

At first I wasnt going to do EA for my one of my reach school because of my test scores. I’m retaking the ACT next week. However, my scores seem to be all over the place from all the practice tests I’ve taken. I’m just going to take a chance now and apply.

If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be yo.

I have the problem that my scores are mediocre nationally but better than anyone in my school. Ugh. The val and sal both got an 1820 on the SAT.

I think this reflects badly on our quality of education…and ranks.

Any of you know if one can edit/redo the common app essay for RD, after submitting it for EA?

lol my non-scholastic distinctions are like “random video game music composition challenges on various facebook groups”, “fractal art feaures on deviantart”, “doing pretty well on the single debate competition I went to”, “winning lots of card games at school”.

Other the other hand, my scholastic distinctions are much, much more legit.

I wonder why some top schools hate my school so much. HPS love ppl from my school and welcome them with open arms, yet schools like Brown and Cornell take like 1 person out of everyone who applies compared to like the 9 ppl who get in to HPS each.

So for Michigan, it asks the prototypical question: Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? I can confidently say I described why I wanna major in what I wanna major; however, how specific am I supposed to be in answering the question that asks for “unique qualities” that attract my to the “specific undergraduate college.”

I wanna double major in engineering and business; so, I explained why I wanna do that and explained why Michigan, but I haven’t yet explained why specifically the College of Engineering and Ross Business School. Am I supposed to talk about like some specific courses or professors? How should I approach that side of the question?

Same problem I’m having with MIT, @baller55

Anyone know?

Oh, is anyone watching Texas A&M vs Bama?

@Optimyst - Yep, unlimited edits on the Common App this year.

So if I haven’t started any of my essays, do you think it’s too late to think about EA?

@LordBendtner Not really…you’ll just have less time to work on them

@XoXdreamerXoX i mean the reality behind Michigan is that its ranked top 10 in both engineering and business, has incredible sports teams, and is an insane party school…like im sorry its not all about academics when it comes to picking schools but like they’re not gonna want to see on this essay that i want a party school.

so, i think im just gonna keep it general and say that michigan is great lol

I don’t even know who our val is, nor do any of my teachers. My school’s average is 1200, everyone says my score (under 1500) is “great”. My school is just so annoying.

@newjerseygirl Our school averages 1050…I’m not sure how more than half have scores in the 900s. The top 10 in my class average between 1500 and 1820.

I don’t know how my 1900 is worth their praise as students show it. Or as my counselors show it. Or as my teachers show it. My college adviser told my my mediocre is twice as much as the bottom half in our class could ever hope to make, which was rather concerning.

Yeah, bad school districts tend to praise what nationally would be deemed average for those applying to moderately competitive schools. I do know that if I went to a great school district, however, I’d feel stupid. Just seeing what people on CC post makes me worried about my future.

@shadyconcepts not bad actually, the interviewer forgot some of his questions :stuck_out_tongue:
