High School Class of 2017

Your schedules for senior year are so intense, and I’m over here debating whether to take three APs and two honors or three APs and one honors. xD

@photogeek For our school, there are really no honors classes left for senior year except English. Everyone either takes all APs or a bunch of electives.

My senior year plan:

AP Calc BC
AP Physics
AP MacroEcon and AP Gov (Both are 1 semester courses @ my school)
Spanish 4H or AP Stats - not sure which I should take … can someone weigh in on this? I plan on pursuing a STEM career / college, and I enjoy math a lot more than Spanish …
Regular English
Religion (mandatory, irritating)

1 unassigned period each semester (basically a study hall)

I need one more semester of fine arts credit to graduate so I’ll probably do Film History and Criticism or something like that

Also I’ll probably take computer programming second semester. I think it’s just an intro to java class, so it shouldn’t be hard.

My dream career:
I wish to be a physicist or animator. My dream as a physicist is to contribute new ideas to quantum mechanics, and as an animator is to start another Disney. I also dream of becoming a programmer and facilitate tasks generally, so I’m not sure at the moment on which dream will I settle. :stuck_out_tongue: but i’m working for all three.

My senior year plan:
AP Physics
AP Chemistry (obligatory, my school curriculum)
AP Calc (not too sure, heard it’s hard from my senior friends)
AP Computer Science
(I wish there was AP animation xD)
and community service.

Can someone also suggest what extracurricular activities would make my applications great? (I’d prefer those relevant to my dream studies!)

Just curious. Thank you!

@BethanyD Personally, I wouldn’t focus on ECs that make you “look good” on your application. Instead, focus on stuff you like to do. I want to be a family physician or ophthalmologist , but I’m in clubs that really interest me, like Debate Team and Quizbowl. I guess if you have a passion for animation find or start an Animation/Graphic Design Club???
Senior Year Plan??? (Don’t plan til March but…)
APUSH
AP Physics 1
AP Calc BC
AP Lit
PLTW MI/BI
This might change though as our school is exploring a 6 period option (but if they did I would take Sports Medicine and Anatomy and Physiology :D)

I’m debating whether to add AP Chemistry to my schedule. I really love chemistry but I will lose an off period my first semester of senior year. What do you guys think? I heard it’s the hardest AP class…

hey! i’m currently in APUSH and im having trouble writing my dbq, is anyone willing to help me? we can talk through groupme or something i really need a good grade on this

please PM me if you’re willing to help me (sorry im desperate af, i need a good grade on this)

@athenanv13 I’m in AP Chem right now. It really depends on your teacher. Personally, my teacher is fabulous, and it hasn’t been too much of a struggle for me. Tests are tough. Lots of labs, lots of HW for me. I’m comfortably pulling an A right now, we’ll see what happens by the end of the semester. Content has pretty much been a rerun of honors chem with some more in-depth ideas and applications. It is my favorite class.

Sorry for the incoherent writing… it’s late but I wanted to answer

@GreenEggsAndSam I’m in AP Physics 1 right now, and I hate it so much. We’re learning Dynamics right now and I barely understand any of it. Then again, if you’re planing to pursue a science career I’m sure you’ll do fine. Anyway, APUSH is also a lot of work, but manageable to maintain an A in if you do all the work.

Anyways, the classes I’m planning to take senior year are:

  • AP Lit
  • AP World
  • AP Spanish
  • APES
  • AP Stats
  • Law in Action / Current Affairs
  • Film Study / Shakespeare Studies

Debating on whether I should take AP Stats or AP Calc, as I’m currently in Precalc Honors but I hate it so much. I’m not a STEM-oriented person, but then again would colleges prefer Calc over Stats, even though I’m planning on majoring in the humanities?

Also, although I’m planning on taking APES, I also love Chemistry–I couldn’t take AP Chem this year because of scheduling conflict. I’m afraid though if I take AP Chem senior year it’s going to be hell, plus I already forgot everything I learned in chem from 10th grade (yikes).

Other than that, I’m excited to take my electives, because I might want to study law in the future, plus watching films for a class and reading Shakespeare?? Count me in

So yesterday I checked my Powerschool (which displays my class grades, for those of you who don’t know) and I don’t have the same Calc teacher I had thus far. After contacting the school, they told me my teacher’s class grades for quarter 1 weren’t high enough so she is not allowed to teach calc anymore and I have a new teacher. I feel bad for the teacher, but I am getting the teacher who used to teach Calc AB before they did some equity thing where the good teachers were give to the lower level classes. This is going to mess up a lot of people. Not happy with administration D:

@greeneggsandsam9 That’s extremely weird that your teacher is changing in the middle of the year. I’ve had that happen before but only because the teacher went on maternity leave

For some reason, I see myself as a teacher in my dream career.

Senior year, I plan on taking

  • AP Gov
  • AP Psych
  • AP Lit
  • AP Bio/APES (can't decide, but I've got until March/April)
  • Honors Pre-Calc
  • Publishing or Writing Center. I want to be a writing tutor, but I really don't want my yearbook messed up with all of the proofreading errors that the Yearbook Club is consistently making in each one.

I plan on:
-AP calc ab
-AP Lit
-AP French
-AP Psych
-AP Bio
-Creative writing??

NEW SAT OR OLD SAT? (HELP PLEASE)

@cottoncandy24 Old if you have time to prepare. There are more materials to help you prepare for the Old SAT than the new one and you’ll get your score faster too!

The NFL has killed my sleep schedule lol. I don’t start my homework until after the late night game ends. And this is every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday %-(

It’s a snow day!!! I needed the day off… I have so much to catch up on

@deeeznuts That’s how it is with me except I watch a lot of NBA. Who’s your favorite NFL team?

@athenanv13 Where do you live that already has snow?

I wish it snowed in California…

Me too but I’d probably get tired of it after a while since I don’t like the cold in general.
