High School Class of 2017

I’m from GA and noone from my school has even gotten into Stanford … If I got in I would actually cry as it’s my dream school. But after the recent REA rate (~9%), I have like 0 chance lol.

Since I’m sure we’re all thinking about the college app process right now, I have a question for everybody. What are you currently interested in majoring in and why?

ChemE CS or Actuarial Science. Always been a math/science person. What about you @foliontai ?

International Relations. I was born in another country, and I just love learning about global issues and policies!

I used to think I was a science person, but I spent some time actually interning at the local flagship in a molecular bio lab and realized how much I disliked it. So now I’m planning to pursue something I actually like! We’ll see how that works out for me…

Hopefully Finance and Political Science Double Major. Ultimate goal is Wall Street—> Entrepreneurship—> Politics

Bio Eng or CS. Although I guess it could be something else too. Kind of depends on strength of program.

Know 4 people who got deferred from MIT as well.

Political science with a finance minor. I’ve always wanted to do something in business, but recently I’ve become very interested in politics.

Math! My one true love <3 Maybe with some Linguistics or Classics or Philosophy on the side, though.

Ap chem final tmrw…yikes

cognitive science! linguistics, psychology, neuroscience and cs all into one!

@foliontai yeah we are super bummed. she is the only genius in our family (I will never reach her caliber…ever) so we kind of underestimated how many kids actually get into mit early. No, northeastern was a match/safety, she applied because of co-op to see what we would get. Only got 15k in merit, not enough to make the school worth it (for her. for me maybe  ) UC’s are cheaper. We’re hoping for Berkeley now since she has lost all hope for ivies and privates :((

Biomedical or Chemical or Mechanical engineering if I survive Calc and Physics C haha

You guys all seem really excited and passionate about your prospective majors! Hopefully thinking about them will make getting through finals just a little bit easier!

@sprights Ah, she shouldn’t give up hope! Just because she wasn’t what MIT was looking for early doesn’t mean she isn’t perfect for another top tier school. She has done really well, and I’m certain that she can get into some other great schools, not that Berkeley isn’t an incredible school. Just stay positive!

Also, you might not be as much of a genius as your sister, but I’m sure you’re pretty awesome in your own right!

Man looking at these Princeton/MIT result pages is tough. I feel like the competition is harsher than ever. Fingers crossed for next year :)>-

I see you guys have been talking about college acceptances while I’ve been away. So far, my school has 1 kid (AKA most loved nerd at my school of nerds because his personality is fire) going to Princeton thanks to Questbridge, another one got into Duke ED last week, 1 got into Yale yesterday (athlete but super smart), and many got into Tulane (guess which state I live in).

Some other people are dealing with the college app blues at the moment. One girl tried the QB National Match with 5 colleges and was unsuccessful, so she transferred her app to Penn’s ED pool and got deferred. Then there’s a friend of mine who got deferred at Northeastern and Tulane (Tulane doesn’t even have his major, so neither of us feel bad about that one) and rejected at WPI. His only acceptance so far is from LSU, which is a school he is hoping and praying he doesn’t end up going to. He also plans on applying to Virginia Tech and Syracuse, so I hope he gets in to at least one of those schools.

The guy who got accepted into Princeton was offered about half a year of tuition from Tulane sometime after he got his full ride notification. I lol’d upon hearing that. Step your offer game up, Green Wave!

@foliontai yep that’s what I’m telling her. and thank you! I hope so too lol

@QueenOfBohemia You must go to a really good school lol. The val and sal applied to Cornell & Johns Hopkins, and both were rejected. Everyone else in my school didn’t apply to any othe top 50 schools haha.

@deeeznuts Ouch. o.e Oh yeah. The kids at my school are definitely brilliant. Last year, 5 people (including the val and sal) got into an Ivy League (two of these five got into 3). Four of those five are now attending an Ivy League (Princeton, Yale, Harvard, and the sal is at Cornell). The fifth one, the val, is at Emory (but she got into Cornell). This year, the seniors seemed to have applied to all of the Ivy Leagues except for Dartmouth (according to Naviance less than 5 have applied so far).

Not applying to a Top 50 school isn’t such a bad choice, either. One only needs to make the most out of the education he/she is receiving at whatever college he/she ends up attending.

@deeeznuts Lucky you. I feel like 20% of the people from my school end up at an Ivy. Such pressure.

I need to study for finals and all I can think about is the new Star Wars movie. >.<
