Wellesley, Middlebury, Dartmouth, Wesleyan, and Harvey Mudd reps came to my school today at the very last minute and made me miss my Gov quiz that I ended up getting exempt from.
Oh wait, that’s good news.
(Keep your heads up, guys.)

@QueenOfBohemia That’s awesome that all those schools visit you high school. The only school I was actually interested in was UIUC and they visited Thursday only because their the state flagship.
Have any of you had interviews yet? Do you have any tips? Because I’m going to be interviewed when I visit Harvey Mudd for a fly-in.
@dsi411 That’s what’s up!
Are CSS Profile and noncustodial profile live? It appears to be letting me sign up and start a form for 2017-18 but I thought it was supposed to open Oct. 1 (along with FAFSA).
I’m somewhat unhappy with my final list of colleges to attend, I feel like the majority of them are reach schools, and my only match/safe schools are some UC schools. I don’t know if it’s worth it to apply to any other match/safe schools, since I’m part of my school’s UC ELC program, but at the same time I want other options to go to aside from a UC if I get rejected from all of my reach schools. What match/safe schools are you guys appling for?
I’ve had an awful week as well: I did awful on an AP Gov exam, I failed almost all of my quizzes for AP Literature, and my social life has been a mess with homecoming. Hopefully this week will be better for all of us…
I’m applying to American, BU, Northeastern, U of Richmond, and U of Toronto as safeties (though really, safeties are subjective). Though it sounds like you’re on the west coast, so you may wanna look at matches around there?
@Greninja I agree! I feel like most of my list includes reaches! I really just want a good match that I can see myself happy at. Lol but im on the east coast tho
My biggest struggle with safeties is finding ones that I can easily get into AND are financially feasible. All of my reaches and most of my matches have amazing financial aid programs, but it’s harder to find less prestigious schools with really good financial aid.
I feel y’all. I’m basically applying to super reaches or less selective places with big competitive scholarships, so chances are I’m gonna end up at my safety (auto merit) because it will be hard to afford my matches without the super competitive merit. (But I am perfectly happy to attend safety
)
In other news, I had 2 weeks’ worth of physics homework due today and I literally had none of it… and there’s no late credit… welp life
Just hit the submit button on my QuestBridge App… now I wait.
I’m so proud, I wrote my first supplemental essay!! Now to work on the Common App essay lol…
I just got accepted to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota!! It was a super safety school, but it still feels really nice to be accepted somewhere… (and with lots of merit scholarships!)
I am done with one application… some more to go. rolls back to common app
More good news: I shut down a racist today. I was reading off Quiz Bowl questions and one of the answers was Their Eyes Were Watching God. This guy thought it would be cute to say “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” I tore him apart. Considering how he and another friend of his were laughing a few weeks ago about how he would say, “I’m not racist, but…” and then would immediately say something racist every single time during APUSH last year, this guy deserved it. I’m glad I did it. That Uncle Tom’s Cabin answer was unprovoked and completely unnecessary.
good for you!! ugh i hate people like that.
I have my first admissions interview in 40 minutes (though Skype)! Any advice? I’m lowkey freaking out…
Depends on the situation. Where are you applying and why?
@Dax123 Carleton College in MN. It’s definitely one of my top choices, and based on my stats I’m a pretty good bet to get in, but you never know at more selective schools…
@eyrar99 Don’t have much info on that in particular, so I’ll just drop some general advice. Don’t take it for granted you’ll get in. Make sure that the interviewer can see that you’re really excited to go. If you have visited, maybe mention at some point how you enjoyed your time there. If you haven’t been able to visit, at least demonstrate that you thoroughly researched the school. Colleges want to be sure that you are excited to go there for undergrad.
Other than that, just be genuine and show them who you really are. If you’re on CC, odds are you really care about being a great student, and if you can show that you’re passionate about your major, you’ll be fine.
Have a couple more things but not enough time to type. Good luck! Let me know what happens.
