High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 Knowing that I dream of going to Harvard/MIT I would probably go with a 10 because I would have accomplished something I’ve worked super hard for. I would open it with my mom and dad because if there is anyone want to make proud, it is them.

@nyuhopeful44 I do a chapter each weekend and review it during the week.

@apple1983 that’s smart. What is PROMYS?

@ak2018 my best friend and I decided to open them together. We both want NYU CAS more than anything

That is so best friend goals @nyuhopeful44

I’ve also been on the HS Parents of the Class of 2018 thread and they are some pretty nice people.

@neonerudite You guys have AP Capstone too?
I thought only our school had it. It’s a research class by the way. And lord help us all.

I’ll probably be in
AP Latin
AP Chem
AP Calc BC
AP Microeconomics
English 11 (no honors/AP option here unfortunately but I might take the AP Lang test)
French 4
Bio Honors
@ak2018 @neonerudite I was going to take AP Capstone but it was moved so it conflicts with another class now, sadly.

@ak2018 lol thanks

I’m not sure what my plans are for junior year, but if I end up staying at my current school, next year I will be in:
AP Lang
APUSH
AP Chem
AP Chem Lab (double blocked)
AP Calc BC
AP Calc BC (double blocked)
AP Comp Sci A/Honors Physics w/ AP Physics 1&2 exams self study? (depends on whether I can convince the assistant principle to let me self-study Physics summer between Junior/Senior year and go straight into AP Physics C senior year)
Orchestra HN

But if I end up going to my state’s residential magnet high school, it will probably be something like:
Junior English (AP Lang)
History of the United States from 1607-Present (APUSH)
Calculus with One Variable I & II (AP Calc BC)
Advanced Chemistry I & II (AP Chem)
Calculus-Based Physics I & II (AP Physics C: M & EM)
Intro to CS/Data Structures in Java (AP Comp Sci A + extra stuff)

So yeah, either way, my schedule is going to be murder next year

You’re welcome @nyuhopeful44

@ish512 I wouldn’t be able to handle that kind of schedule.

@nyuhopeful44 PROMYS stands for Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists. It is a program for “gifted” math students hosted at Boston University. I am no way gifted (Just a guy in algebra 2 with a 90%), but I love math and hopefully I’ll get accepted because of my recommendation, essay, and/or my attempt towards the application math problems.

@apple1893 i remember reading about it a couple months ago when looking into potential summer programs, but i decided not to apply because there was a faq or q&a (or something like that) section on their website and for some reason it gave off this really sassy/mean vibe and I’m just like nahhhh.

@ak2018 wow I had no idea there was a thread like that lol

Yeah @gormar099 The program costs $3,800 - $6800.

I’m also currently reading Frankenstein. Also for anyone who is having trouble reading a book, try going to YouTube and having it read to you. That’s how I am able to keep awake while reading lol.

@HelloThereHola Yeah. But they don’t go on CC as much as we do. Likely doing adult things.

@ak2018 You’d be surprised. I know junior in 6 AP classes who qualifies for AIME every year, and he has more of a social life than I do.

I’m back!! School has kept me busy lately, with mid-terms starting tomorrow and all.

I did the CollegeSearch thing on the PSAT, and I’ve been receiving emails from schools that I’m not even going to consider, like Case Western, Stonehill, Emmanuel, Fordham, Tulane, Wheaton, and many more. I know now that I’m NOT going to submit myself to the barrage of college emails next year!

@mutedmornings That’s amazing! Caltech is my dream school, also, so that’s amazing you received an email from them! I’m very jealous!

@Phantomlink I wish I received emails from the ivies. I think it depends on PSAT score. I only scored 1220, so that might be a reason why. One of my friends scored in the 1300s and is getting emails from them.

@nyuhopeful44 I got a large envelope from Whitman last week. That only happened because I requested information. When I showed it to my mom (she lived in Washington State) she said “You know what’s in Walla Walla? The state penitentiary.” I still like the school, though!

@rousseau809 Does a music summer camp count?

@thetex I put my secondary email down, so I don’t see the emails unless I log into that account. Keeps my primary clean (except for the few that found that one).

@HelloThereHola All of the emails I get are from schools I don’t even like.

@ak2018 I would DIE if I got an acceptance letter from Caltech. My mom keeps saying I won’t get in (but I think she’s still going to let me apply), but if I do I would die and accept immediately. I would also open the letter (or email) by myself and then show it to my entire family.

@gormar099 I already decided my junior and senior schedules to make sure I can take all of the classes I want/need to take.

I finally decided my schedule for next year. Now to wait for the course cards to come out!
AP Language
Introduction to Astronomy
AP US History
