High School Class of 2018

@mutedmornings If I had to be honest, it is a little weird. Also, most schools have policies against being in social media with teachers. If you think its a good idea yourself and seems normal, you could do it. Or… you could ask us for help

@wonderfulreads wow lol we both have 173 posts. Well not anymore but… lol

@wonderfulreads @HelloThereHola I now go to a different school that’s not in that district… Would that change things?

Ahaha I guess asking here wouldn’t hurt either. So, do you guys think that being “good” at math just mainly comes from practice and hard work? Or does everyone have a certain aptitude for it, which matters quite a bit in their ability to do well at it?

Honestly I feel really sad because I used to be one of the people who were “good” at math. But I feel like I haven’t really improved since then, and so I’m just wondering what went wrong? It’s probably because I don’t really study… But then didn’t study back then either? Or maybe I was just never that great? Idk. Either way I definitely want to improve, and now will work harder. But a part of me just feels like I’m innately dumb and that I won’t be able to work hard enough or be good enough? Ahaha maybe the stress about college (though it’s still a bit away) is getting to me.

@Madeline25 Yeah, it is. But I mean I don’t want to stress about it.

I changed my profile picture to a picture of the snow I’m currently getting. As you can see, it’s quite a lot.

@ak2018 I have some friends in Ashburn who sent me pictures. That amount of snow is crazy!

What schools are you guys planning on applying to? My list is:
High Reaches: Stanford, Columbia, Brown, Princeton, Harvard

Low Reaches: Dartmouth, Northwestern, University of Pennsylvania

Matches: NYU (applying ED) University of Michigan, Berkely, UCLA, George Washington University, University of Pittsburgh

Safeties: University of Arizona, University of Alabama, University of Oregon

Yeah it really is @awesomepolyglot We’ve gotten over a foot of snow.

Blizzard Update: There have been over 800 car accidents in NOVA and over 900 car accidents total. Ten people have died so far!

We’re at over 22 inches here and counting. Down the shore is flooding insane! (to the point where it’s actually WORSE than Hurricane Sandy). Oh god how I hate winter

@mamaba It’s 25 inches right now! I honestly think we’re not going back to school until Friday at the least. There’s supposed to be another storm Tuesday and Wednesday.

@ak2018 Is it okay that I’m celebrating the blizzard not hitting Maine? We usually get all of the blizzards.
I signed up to the email thing with my secondary email, and forward the emails I like to my primary, like the one I got yesterday about being nominated by my school for the National Student Leadership Conference.
I hope it’s not too late to read your essay! I haven’t read 1984, but I think I’ll be fine.

@awesomepolygot Carol has kept Mainers in her thoughts by not giving us a blizzard! We needed a break. lol

@cxprus Congrats on your nomination! That’s amazing!

@mutedmornings I’ll PM you the image of all of my college mail minus the 2 letters I received today. I’ve also received around 30 emails so far this year.

@tonyk16 I’m very happy about us not getting any snow! Have you seen Bangor PD’s Facebook posts about the blizzard? They’re hilarious!

@nyuhopeful44 Here’s my list by category:
High Reaches: Caltech, Harvard, Yale
Low Reaches: Dartmouth, Swarthmore
Matches: Boston University, McGill, Whitman, New England Conservatory of Music
Safety: UMaine

I hope all of you affected by the blizzard stay safe and out of harm’s way.

Sorry I wasn’t on much the past few days, I had to finish midterms. On that note, MIDTERMS ARE OVER!!! I’m very happy! All of my tests were easy, except for AP Biology. I had trouble on one of the essays.

@frazzledazzle It’s definitely okay. I just wish we didn’t get so much snow so fast. I can only imagine how the northern states and Canada are looking down at us. 30 inches of snow haha! My dad was trying to shovel some of it, but it was only so he could get to work tonight. There’s no point to shoveling the sidewalks until tomorrow. And I’ll PM you the essay in a minute.

Am I the only one hating the fact that I’ve been stuck at home for two days with family and getting annoyed?

@frazzledazzle that’s extremely optimistic considering an Ivy league schools and an elite liberal arts school low reaches. Boston university isn’t a match for anyone unless they have a 3.8 with a 2150 on the SAT

@ak2018 My town had 30 inches at one point last winter. You couldn’t see my mailbox there was so much snow.
It gets rough when everyone is stuck together. If you have internet and don’t want any interaction with them, surf the internet. If there isn’t or if you want to be with them in some sense, play board games. That always helps.

@BucketsUCSC I have spoken with the admissions people at Dartmouth, so I put it as that. As for Swarthmore, it is an estimate that could change at any time. Same goes for BU. They’re all based off my grades, which you don’t know.

@BucketsUCSC i think you’re overrating BU a little.
@nyuhopeful44 i don’t really know, and i probably won’t really worry about that until next year.

I talked to a junior who was about to do it and she was in the same case as mine, but however contacted her colleges the person I talked to wanted to go to or consider applying before hand if they accept the credit. Most of the colleges she contacted said they would go AP instead of IB or both.

She also made a point that made me realize this, If you are gonna do a 2 year program and all of a sudden your grades are really impacted in the program and you don’t do so good that first semester, well at my school, if you want to leave the program, you have to wait till June 2017 (in my case) to leave the program. You can’t drop it. The logic is: If you are gonna do a class that you already know the system and how it works vs. a system you don’t know how it works at all and you know your gonna do really horrible in. Which one is the logical choice?

I learned something: Contact the prospective colleges you want to do go to if they accept the credit because if you end up doing the Diploma Programme and then you pass everything and for some odd reason you SIRed to the college that didn’t accept the credit. Then the programme was a waste.

Thanks @frazzledazzle

@gormar099 @BucketsUCSC BU isn’t that hard to get into. That’s why it’s a match for me.
