Anyone taking the AMC 10/12 tomorrow?
@apple1893 good job on Algebra! You’ll be fine on bio
@ak2018 you’re lucky to have such a great GC! Mine is okay I guess but I don’t know her that well.
@nyuhopeful44 It’s a review of Algebra 2 with more trig involved. You go deeper into topics that felt skimmed over in Algebra 2 and at the end of the year you cover topics necessary for Calculus like limits.
Edit: It really depends on your school though. I’ve heard that in some places pre-calc is optional because all the material was covered in Algebra 2 or that everything in the class is brand new to the students. I think the differences is in whether Calculus AB is required for BC at your school or if you only take one Calc class and move on.
@nyuhopeful44 Yeah I guess I am lucky. I’m an 1 and 1/2 into Grease Live and it’s so cool!
Quick Question:
How old are you guys and when are your birthdays?
I’m 15 and my birthday is May 10th.
@ak2018 15 bday is February 5
Happy early birthday lol @NYUhopeful44 I’m fifteen and bday is nov 14
@nyuhopeful44 15 or 16?
@nyuhopeful44 OMG Grease Live! was so much better than movie! That was the best thing I’ve seen in a while!
@frazzledazzle Caltech is fantastic! And, I’ve found that many, many people are shooting for Harvard. I’m predicting that it’ll be the most applied to school once we graduate haha.
@nyuhopeful44 That’s a lot of applications and careful essays to plan. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll get into at least one. I’m preparing myself for rejection a few years in advance so when I do get my rejection letters, I won’t be too disappointed. Although, my dream schools are Harvard and Stanford (doubt I’ll get in ESPECIALLY since I’m Asian). A girl can dream, right?
@apple1893 My GPA is definitely not at a 3.8 right now especially since my grade deflation from this first semester. But since I’m a Canadian student applying, American schools usually add a few points since our weighting system is completely different (as in a low 90 something can pass for a 4.0 GPA). The Ivy selection system can be so random sometimes so who knows?
@averagebean You’re Canadian? What’s the school system like up there?
@ak2018 I’ve never experienced the American school system so I can’t give a detailed comparison. It differs all across different parts of Canada. In my province, high school starts in Grade 10 (or the American sophomore year).
Our grading system is quite different:
80-100 is Exemplary (A)
65-79 is Proficient (B)
50-64 is Adequate ©
0-49 is Limited (F)
It’s a lot harder to achieve a 90 here which is why most International schools tend to add a bit of weight onto our grades. However, getting a 98 average here is still a great thing to aim for. Since I’m Asian and aiming for Ivies, I’m going to need that 98 haha.
I am 15 and my birthday is February 3rd.
Well Happy Early Birthday @Kelvin82 <:-P
That’s cool @averagebean I always wanted to go to Canada or England, maybe for a study-abroad program.
@Kelvin82 That’s my younger brother’s birthday! Happy Sweet 16!!!
I’m 15 and my birthday is Jan 24 2001
Well Happy Birthday @thetex
@ak2018 I’m fifteen and my birthday is february 5th
@averagebean Best of Luck!
I’m 15 and my b-day is May 23rd. Its going to feel weird turning 16. :s
